Yes gives the sound more weight and body make them sound more like big speakers with rock but also creates this live being their sound

Had a talk with Steve about his latest developments...it got me thinking!!!
I bi-amp my Frugels so I dragged the Whaferdale diamond 9s out the garage and had a play at trying to integrate them with the Frugels.
Tried them on top firing towards me/firing vertically/behind and to the side. Cant say it improved anything bar the quantity but not quality of the bass. Fun trying but was very relieved to go back to normal.....they just sound so right.
I think I will leave developments to experts like Steve!!!

I think from what I heard similar drivers work best

I have finally dug my Frugal Horn 3 speakers out from the loft.
The MDF cabinets (from an Ebay seller in Germany) have been re-united with my "enabled" Fostex FE126 drivers and were used for TV duties for a few days fed by an old Sony SS amp, which gave me a decent sound, at last.
Just now I substituted the Frugals in place of my baffles, and to be honest, I'm surprised how good they sound. In their temporary position the bass is a bit light, but everything else is lacking nothing. Stereo sound-stage is very good, and they seem "less obvious" in use. The amps being used are my GK-71 (as a triode) monoblocks.
I may well give the baffles a "rest" in the near future and set up the Frugals in a more optimum position.

The Frugels are very good all-rounders if placed near room corners. The ones I heard (with Mark Audio drivers) were excellent.

Nice one Philip. The presentation is in the style of OB's so I imagine you don't have a drastic adjustment in comparison. Did they come down with the Christmas tree?

I'm now playing some Siri, mainly to test the bass reproduction, and it's nowhere near as bass light as I first thought.

I found a small sub really helped to add a little more depth to the sound.

I tried integrating a sub but it was pure pish TBH (same result with 57s/63s) They do what they do well- careful placement through experimentation with your room is key IMHO.
I fall into the cans end of the spectrum sonically-if you can produce something approaching headphone sound in your listening room with all the placement and reflection issues then your lucky.
Fine speakers that like a bit of power up them.....

Fine speakers that like a bit of power up them..... With regard to the Quads - their (both of the mentioned flavours) rolled off top end doesn't help at the other end of the audio spectrum. Sort out a clean supertweeter and integrate it well with the panels, and the effect on the bass instruments is miraculous. As a side note, the reason why they roll off with the high frequencies is because it's the high frequencies that demand serious current delivery - ESLs impedance drops wickedly as frequency increases. Fail to deliver the necessary and things roll off ....... You'd be surprised at how high some of the attack frequencies are. Fingers on strings and fingerboard of a Double Bass have masses of high frequency information - add the high frequencies and your brain takes its cues and fills in the rest. Suddenly your sound has percussive impact where there was little or none before.

Out of interest how do you go about integrating a super tweeter? Are we talking about digital cross overs/wiring in parallel/splitting the amp output?

Nah! You can take a feed off the main speaker terminals, and add a simple high pass filter. You do need a fairly high quality tweeter. Ask Colin (Toppsy) over on AoS - he did it with his 63s, and they were transformed. He might remember values and components.

Thanks for that...I took stewardship of Colins 57s-love them to bits. Colin demoed his latest Eddingdales to me and my missus when we were down picking them up-bought a turntable off the back of what I heard. He fairly knows his potatoes and builds some marvelous speakers-have heard Garys a few times, really something special with 300bs.

I thought it was you that took over custodianship of Colins ESL57s. I heard them shortly before they went North with you, and they sounded rather good. What they do well I like, a lot. I just wish they didn't roll off as early as they do. If I remember correctly Colin used one of the Fostex horn tweeters, and I think it was this one, the T90A. Unfortunately I don't know the other details. There will have been a capacitor and a couple of resistors configured as an L pad.
