Just a quick update on speakers.I put on amps when I got in about 3 this afternoon and let the amp and dac warm up.Started to listen about 6ish and during the evening I noticed the brittleness i noticed yesterday had started to soften very nicely. What I have noticed is they have become much more transparent with even more detail in the higher frequencies.I am very pleased[to say the least]with what Steve has done to my speakers. They are still magical in that I sat down to listen for the changes that had occurred and while doing so was still totally immersed in the music.I listen to a lot of jazz, and world music and tonight I have pulled out Ry Cooder,Lowell George,John Martyn,to name but a few,all of which I have neglected for donkeys years. They brought back all my memories of the gigs I saw them at and I have had a joyous trip down memory lane.I am going to try some tube rolling in The amps and dac as these speakers are so revealing I think it will be a rewarding experiment.I will keep posting on how the speakers and system develop.

Just a quick update since Steve's mods.More open and airy and less valve warmth/bloom.I feel like I have moved a couple of rows closer and find the sound more intimate and real.I feel I can see deeper into the music but without listening to the system but the music.I didnt think these could get any better ,but then along comes Steve with his majic wand and lifts them another level.Once again I would like to thank Steve for his time and effort,he really is one of the good guys

Can anybody point me in the direction of pictures with the upgrades fitted? Is the horn extension an internal mod?
I'd quite like to see what a finished, upgraded pair looks like. The speaker upgrade demon is still gnawing away at me.
What are these speakers like at low to moderate listening levels? My current speakers need a bit of volume to start sounding their best, and with a new baby due in June, I want something better at lower volumes.

Heard them a few times over at a mates along with Brian mate. Think they are quite efficient? They work great at low volumes, we heard plenty of clout and involvement even at low volumes.
Turn up the wick and the sound just scales up.

Steve would need to comment here, but I'm fairly sure the horns are an ring attachment that you fit to the driver surround. I saw a few of them when I was last at Steve's place. Over to you Mr. Electrobeach......

I thought the mod would be with the rear port or internally. Did you get to hear what it did to the sound? Im not sure I want to attach a trumpet to the front of my pretty speakers!!!
Low level wise they are really good and just respond as you up the volume, pretty sensitive to positioning but when you get it right they sound spot on.
I have tried them with a variety of amps-t amps/solid state/valve...passive and active pre. They respond well to all of them.
I haven't returned to my Spendors or statics since I plumbed them in-no need they do everything I need.

Heard Tony's Frugels a couple of times now. Previousy he had Spendors and Qaud ESL-63's.
Mentioned this before, but to me his Frugels combine the low end solidity of his Spendors with the holographic imaging of his Quads...best of both worlds.

I showed the pictures on the Electricbeach web site to the wife last night. It's gone from "No" to "Maybe, let's talk about it."
I'm claiming a small victory for that.

I found being able to pick all the finish elements in conjunction with my good lady a big plus. Steve does numerous colours and finishes even down to the driver colour. It counts for nought if they don't produce the sonic goods but they do in spades.
I haven't felt the need to change since I got them....

The problem is, if I do get them, they could be my last HiFi purchase for a while.... I'll have to sneak a DAC in under the radar.

caiman 2 works really well with them....I have no reservations recommending them-best speakers I have owned ( bought from new to my own design).
