Those were also my findings Norton, I have heard them on two different occasions and with different equipment. I have not heard the DIY model but people who have and have been able to compare them with the Electricbeach version say they are poles apart.

I have not heard any diy frugals but for what a kit costs then getting a finish on them as good as Steves isnt going to be far short of what Steve charges for these fantastic speakers. In terms of sonics alone I dont think these speakers can be touched for anywhere near that kind of money and add to that a superb finish and without doubt Steve has got a winner on his hands. If anyone is looking for speakers have a listen to these and save a lot of money buying somewhere else, the only problem is you will find yourself trawling sites like amazon looking for new music and spending your money there but at the end of the day thats why we have the system in the fist place

Hi,best to get in touch with Steve at electric beach,he cant do enough to help,he is a top bloke. The finish and care Steve puts into these speakers is exellent but its the sound that counts and this is where they really shine.Steve nows these speakers inside out and is always looking at ways to improve performance. To my ears they sound superb in my room and with my equipment.I finally feel I am now listening to music again instead of equipment and its so nice to be back to where I started

How much do they cost? Lovely looking things. You're attracted to the feminine racy curves, slender figure and party frock, eh? Good man. Form strictly follows function though. Lovingly caressed wood finishes are £760 and painted harlots are £860.

I've now heard these a couple of times at Tonys and have to say that at the price these are a bargain . With or without the flowery frock

Steve, Nice to see you on here..... My pair are really starting to open up, had Brian and Gary across the other day and both noticed a marked improvement since the last time. They both checked to see if I had hidden a sub somewhere!!!!
One very happy owner here, a great buying experience and aftercare. Wouldn't hesitate at recommending them.

Looks like you were up until 3.00 in the morning listening Tony! Sounds like you are now hearing what I would have liked to demo to you, but you took the leap of faith and I'm so pleased you found yourself flying. How many hours would you estimate you have on them now? The upgrade that I'm making for Ian is to bring his pair up to the spec of yours. He does however have the horn extension which eliminates bass boom and opens up the acoustic once the drivers have developed. I'll send you details. Will Ali get to hear them sometime, I'd like to hear his critique? That's not to say I don't value the generous comments from Brian and Gaz!

Ian, Have a look in the general HI-FI section I have a frugel3s thread running, probably should have posted it in Speakers. Steve, I work shifts so often finish in the early hours-cans only....my next door neighbour is good to a point!! My shift pattern makes get together s a bit hit and miss but Ali will hopefully get to hear them and lend his well trained ears.
hours wise I would be guessing- wee thread on t amps will let you know what we subjected the poor girls to.

Hi Tony,I use 845 set mono:s on the frugals but used a croft series 4 for the stats.I have 57:s on ota stands and tannoy mg15"s.The stats are fantastic speakers but don't work well on my 845"s.The only thing they bested the frugals on was midrange and only just, apart from that the frugals in my room and setup better them to my ears by a fair margin.Ive tried different speaker cables(tried friends cables) but with townshend isolda seem more balanced over the whole range.I will keep posting about my thoughts on speakers as I live with them longer.the horn extensions are excellent in my room and have improved sound quality. To my ears the bass is more tuneful and here had a slight bloom which is now gone.the speakers also gain in stature and sound quality is improved.

I guess I had better start squirrelling some money away each month. My speaker upgrade fund is going on something that will hopefully give me more enjoyment that music, but requires pushchairs and nappies.
Ho hum...

Ian, I close couple my amps to the Frugel3s so can experiment with jumper lengths of speaker wire. Steve custom built mine letting me either utilise the speaker posts to allow experimentation with cables but also provided direct wiring. Steves wiring is a very close call to TQ ultra black, theres very little in it TBH. I currently have two mini t amps with y cables and TQ black split. It works really well with ICs Brian of this parish made for me between amps and pre.
The TQ UB really didnt work with my 63s-system synergy!!!

Hi,good to see youve got the valve amps.If you can get nos el84 mullard or brimars there well worth it.I have owned a few el84 leaks and they are a sweet valve.First impressions were better transparency but a little brittle at the top end but after a few hours they are starting to bed in and coming on song.I will give it a few days and Im expecting excellent results.Once agai aI pleasant afternoon/evening with Steve.I cant say enough about the customer service, its second to none. The biggest improvement are the horn extentions which improve sound quality by some margin and make them more tunable.
