There should be a special kind of punishment for anyone arrogant enough to remake classics like The Evil Dead and Psycho.
To all directors: STEP AWAY FROM THE CLASSICS!

To rob ourselves of the joy of the Evil Dead remake is when the struggle to free ourselves from restraints becomes our very shackles.

Well I enjoyed the remake of Evil Dead. So there. Now that is intriguing, wouldn't have guessed that. I find it really interesting what films people like and don't like . . . I think it's harder to recommend films to people than it is music.
I can't remember Jules, are you a nay or yea for Marvel?
And I want to see Argento's Gone With the Wind

So, do you guys who dismiss the entire 33 film (at the last count) output from Marvel because you've watched one or two you didn't like, usually the earlier movies, think that's an honest, realistic, and decent sampling to denigrate an entire studio's output? (Cue the smartarse answers). I'm a fan, as you know, but I cannot, for the life of me, understand how those of you who like (for instance) The Peripheral, Citadel, or Bond-style superhero films, or Reacher, or Martin's favourite, John Wick. or The Continental, can " not" like things like the Wolverine/Logan movies (which you've never seen) or alternatively the Guardians of the Galaxy series (which you've never seen), which add even more humour into the mix - it's why I prefer Marvel to the competing DC (Superman, Batman, etc) Universe, by the way. DC generally play it far too " straight" whereas you can always depend on the humour from Marvel - and humour is definitely taken to the n th degree in the Deadpool films, which I find absolutely hilarious. Not every film has to be in black and white, with subtitles, and require at least a Doctorate in psychology and 5 visits to the cinema to fully understand it before one can actually "enjoy" it. Some films are just honest, extremely well made balls-to-the-wall high-octane (and sometimes deliberately), low-brow fun. There is ample room for both in cinema, but to trash 33 movies after, perhaps, not even going beyond watching a trailer for one, seems a little ridiculous to me, and is redolent of elitist band-wagon-jumping. Just me, screaming into the void, feel free to ignore me.

Absolutely fantastic rant Paul, I love it . . . as good as some of Mark Kermode's very best
I'm awarding this post a gold star

Actually, I might be in the clear as I don't like any of these either "The Peripheral, Citadel, or Bond-style superhero films, or Reacher, or Martin's favourite, John Wick. or The Continental" so I reckon I'm off the hook and won't be finding that horse's head in my bed.

Michael Bay? Oh dear, the ultimate creator of unrealistic action shite of the first order. With one exception. Con Air I just love - John Malkovich as Cyrus the Virus, it's hamtastic fun. Even Nic Cage is great in this. A star turn from Steve Buscemi too. It's all expertly choreographed fun.

Talking of Kermode rants, if anyone hasn't seen this one . . . . ?
And he starts off with "I should say right at the beginning of this, you're not going to get a rant . . . ."
Sex and the City 2 took nearly $300,000,000 at the Box Office and the first film, more than $400 million

So I'll leave it to Mark . . .

No attempt at cogent or coherent argument as to why you dislike 33 films you've almost certainly never seen, just (if I may borrow a Teenage Fanclub album title) a single simple, vacuous, bandwagonesque syllable.
