I can’t work out whether I love the looks of this Unison Research pre or not … Forget the valve vs solid state thing, I’m just thinking about the aesthetics. The solid wood used looks absolute quality I must say, and the sculptured soft lines are rather different and appealing, compared to the usual square boxes we have. And just look at the knobs on it - like getting your hands on a Cumberland sausage …

...like getting your hands on a Cumberland sausage … I bet you say that to all the girls. I love wood in all its forms (ooh-err, missus), but I always thought that was an absolute abomination of design. Yukk!

d'Agostino Momentum He designed the Krells, but what do you think of this amp, straight from Captain Nemo's sub?

Looks ideal to take on a camping holiday, just not sure where you plug the gas cylinder in

Interesting how designs can completely divide us.
I rather like Captain Nemo's amp but you'd need a room to put it in that looks the part!

d'Agostino Momentum He designed the Krells, but what do you think of this amp, straight from Captain Nemo's sub? My friend Marc has the Momentum mono blocs, driving Magico S7 speakers in his home in Epping. Front end is a full stack dCS Vivaldi digital (in silver Martin) with an Audio Research 40th Anniversary two-box pre and a ton of Artesinia stands supporting it all! It's a typical Absolute Sounds system, complete with Transparent cabling throughout and looks very blingy! I like the look of the D'Agostino amps in the flesh and the build quality is exceptional! How does it all sound? I prefer the system I have at home!

I think I would have liked a 47 Laboratory Koma turntable. The dusting would be hell, though.

For the generation raised on Meccano!
The arm looks reminiscent of your old Dynavector Martin!

I love the Nemo-amp, can't abide the wooden UR monstrosity. Fugliest speaker award for me goes to the truly hideous ...

In answer to the OP, I like the aesthetics of a lot of Unison Research's valve amps, but the Mystery One is a no-no for me. Their Phono One, on the other hand...

Hi Jules, I like the looks of the preamp in a radiogram sort of way. It would go with deco 30s furniture or 50s too.
Is that a CD slot I spy?
