I like the fizz - like that burn you get when gulping down a Coke, not that I do that very often nowadays!
I've arranged blood tests at the hospital so I can see if the diet has had a beneficial effect on cholesterol and blood sugar. Fingers crossed.

I drink at least 2 litres of squash (can't stand tap water either!) plus a number of cups of tea. I have to be careful not to drink too much though due to water retention issues. Although I do take diuretics (for my health condition) which helps dispose of unwanted water.

Look out for too many cups of tea, caffeine, tannin and probably milk, perhaps sugar ?

I buy multi-packs of sparkling water and add a squirt of Squash'd for flavour. Keeps me drinking lots of water. Coke is bad for you, even the Diet and Zero variants.

I buy multi-packs of sparkling water and add a squirt of Squash'd for flavour. Keeps me drinking lots of water. Coke is bad for you, even the Diet and Zero variants. Especially the diet and zero.. the sugar substitutes are not good for your system at all! ... Is diet soda bad for you? A growing body of evidence suggests that diet soda consumption correlates with an increased risk of a wide range of medical conditions, notably: heart conditions, such as heart attack and high blood pressure metabolic issues, including diabetes and obesity brain conditions, such as dementia and stroke liver problems, which include nonalcoholic fatty liver disease Many studies of people who drink soda have been extensive and spanned many years. However, few studies have fully controlled for other risk factors that might lead to chronic health issues, such as being overweight or having a sedentary lifestyle. Therefore, they may not account for the fact that people who drink soda might have more health issues independent of their beverage choices. For example, a person might be drinking diet soda because they have a high body mass index (BMI) and are trying to lose weight. Or, people who regularly drink soda may be more likely to eat certain types of food, which may pose health risks. Researchers do not know exactly why diet sodas may increase the risk of disease. Some believe that diet sodas might damage blood vessels or cause chronic inflammation. Diet sodas may also undermine health by changing other habits. A 2012 study suggests that diet soda may change how the brain responds to sweet flavors by affecting dopamine, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in pleasure, motivation, and reward. Frequently drinking diet soda might cause a person to crave more sweets, including both sweet snacks and more soda. Source www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325919.php#is-diet-soda-bad-for-you

Luckily, I don't like the taste of many sugar substitutes / artificial sweeteners so I avoid them because of that.

Anything that has been processed, farted around with has another set of at least potential muck added. There are rules - that specify how many parts per million are allowed in the product.
Food processing plants are huge factories with their own set of problems. Add in animals to the chain with factory farming and meat processing, more additives after that and you ratchet up the muck input as well as all the additives and chemicals used.
I still eat a small amount of processed food and even vegan can have a big list of 'things you don't know so probably don't want in your stomach'. Reading ingredient lists should be part of our everyday life and certainly taught at school

I use this zero-sugar syrup in my water. www.teisseire.com/en-gb/uk/our-products/le-0/ It's not cheap, but it's actually quite economical as you don't use very much to flavour a bottle of water. I'm not allowed the Grapefruit (which pains me greatly) but I can vouch for all of the other flavours. Amazon stock it, as do Sainsbury's

Good news on my weekly weigh-in today - another 0.5kg lost so very near my target weight. Checked my new BMI and at last in the healthy range. Just got cholesterol and blood sugar to test.

Not sure I want to look at the scales - diet went well out the window in France!
Back to self-discipline now ...

I would have to plan my food very carefully if not at home, let alone in another country. Vegan in France would be a struggle !

Not so difficult now with things like Trip Advisor - you can search for local restaurants with the kind of menu you want including vegan ...
I did eat a fair amount of meat I have to say.

Needless to say that I haven't lost any more weight in the past two weeks with my trip to France and the gastronomic calories indulged in.
The good news is I've not gained any though, so back to the routine to lose that last bit of weight ...
