"How intermittent fasting changes your brain A new study from Singapore found that intermittent fasting increases neurogenesis. - Rats that fasted for 16 hours a day showed the greatest increase in hippocampal neurogenesis. - If true in humans, intermittent fasting could be a method for fighting off dementia as you age. - Intermittent fasting has previously been shown to have positive effects on your liver, immune system, heart, and brain, as well as your body's ability to fight cancer. Closing your feeding window appears to have many beneficial effects for overall health." bigthink.com/mind-brain/intermittent-fasting

If I had to eat processed meat, I'd make sure it had no Sodium Nitrate/Nitrite.
They've been putting the stuff in cured meat since at least the early 1900's! It's quantity regulated as it is highly poisonous.
There are several large processors who don't use it. The cheap stuff of course has it!
If I kept chickens, pigs etc and was hungry, I might eat them, last resort, not sure though as don't want the animal protein pumping round my cardiovascular. What a messy faff too!

New fasting diet starts again today.
I want to lose the 3-4 kg I put on during lockdown.

Yes, not a bad idea at all. What's the Plan, Jules?
I started at around 82Kg, went down to 74Kg and am now back up and holding fairly steady at 76Kg. Could do with losing 3-4Kg myself.

So I started at 88kg, got down to just under 80kg - now at 83kg, want to get back to 80.
Going to do the same day on, day off as before - hopefully it will work its magic again!

Why don't you try OMAD Jules, no thinking, no watching what you eat, no counting anything or cutting anything out - just eat your fill once a day?
I find anything else too hard and too much fuss.

I find my diet simplicity itself Tim, which is why I like it - I barely change what I eat, don't do any calorie counting and it was very effective last time round ... luvverly.

Well if it works, then perfecto - I couldn't get on with the day on day off malarky, found it too hard. But we are all different, the trick is finding the one that works for you. Don't forget a daily dram is a very important aid to weight loss

One thing about this diet is that it gives you a new found appreciation of breakfast!
Just hope I'm not raiding the kitchen at 5am or earlier tomorrow like I did previously ...

When I was on the alternate day fasting, after struggling through the fast day (late morning and the evening were the worst) by the time the breakfast hour came along I usually wasn't feeling hungry at all, I had to force myself to eat something. Strange.

I just had the best fish and chips I've had locally down on the seafront. Finally they managed to cook it well!

I've managed to lose 1.75 kilos in my first week back dieting - really pleased with that. I probably lost most of it on the walk home from Edward's place yesterday - was like a scene from Lawrence of Arabia.

Went back on the diet again yesterday. I noticed my weight had crept up like a ninja so thought I would try and lose 3-5kg before Xmas if possible.
