Didn't realise it was such a secret
Heavily processed meat does you in. EG Bacon, burgers, sausages, salami

No, it doesn't. It may increase your risk of cancer if eaten regularly and in a certain quantity.
From the WHO -
The WHO advised that consuming 50g of processed meat a day – equivalent to just a couple of rashers of bacon or one hotdog – would raise the risk of getting bowel cancer by 18% over a lifetime
I would never advise anyone to eat that much processed meat on a daily basis. Think of the saturated fat as well.
I maybe eat bacon a couple of times a month. I also eat a very modest amount of hams and sausages maybe a couple of times a month.

Seen two or three places putting it much stronger than that. New Scientist may have been one. Didn't log it as I don't have that decision to make

And did they take out all possible variables in this test and look at the general lifestyles of all of us meat over-indulgers to make sure all of their testing was as accurate as possible? I doubt we know.
Of course eating too much processed or red meat is not a good idea. Alcohol is very bad for health. Does that mean I'm going to stop it in the very small quantities I enjoy? No.
My interest in this thread is waning.

Love well cooked liver, bacon and mash. Not cooked that dish for a while, when I did, olive oil and butter foaming in a hot pan, lightly dusted with seasoned flour, 2 mins a side and rest to a nice medium rare, deglaze and reduce the pan juices with a splash of red wine vinegar and a slug of burgundy.

Gastropub style, yes very nice indeed, not had that in ages and never cooked it at home!

I miss good liver. Not one I get to cook at home because our current place has an induction hob, which doesn't generate the heat that's required to properly sear anything.

My mum used to cook it in flour back in the day ... Was a favourite of mine.

Alas, flour is verboten. I'll take all the saturated fat that's going, though!

I'm not falling for the processed meat nonsense. The Mediterraneans eat a lot more ham, prosciutto and salami than we do and they generally live to be older. They also eat olives and cheese, so I'm really not going to worry about those things, either. I don't eat pre-packaged processed food and life really is too short to be overly limiting on yourself.

Yes, one cannot really extoll the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet and ignore the cured meat products present, balance In all things.I suppose.
Mind you I am drinking the good stuff sooner now as there may not be a later!

WHO: Q&A on the carcinogenicity of the consumption of red meat and processed meat8. Processed meat was classified as Group 1, carcinogenic to humans. What does this mean? This category is used when there is sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in humans. In other words, there is convincing evidence that the agent causes cancer. The evaluation is usually based on epidemiological studies showing the development of cancer in exposed humans. In the case of processed meat, this classification is based on sufficient evidence from epidemiological studies that eating processed meat causes colorectal cancer.

People make their own choices about risk - I suspect that few folks, if any, on this thread are poorly informed. I do love a bit of smoked bacon, and I'm very partial to chocolate, but usually I'm heavy on the veg and fruit and I don't partake of alcohol cos I don't like it much. I reckon it all balances out, inherited risk factors are unavoidable and they are substantial. Enjoy life with a bit of naughtiness, why not?

I made a bacon sarnie this morning. It was delicious. I have days like that, when I feel like... living on the edge. But then I chicken out.
