It’s a good weekend, and you get to hear stuff you wouldn’t normally get the opportunity to.

I've heard a similarly modified pair at a previous Owston which was easily the best amp I've heard so far, so if this kit gets anywhere near that I'll be a happy chappie. "Then we heard Gary's PS Audio pre and DAC with Ali's 300B OTLs through Steve's Fane speakers. Very nice I thought." only a single sentence I could find regarding this amp; how do they stack up to your memory of the previous Owston event?

Not as good as I remember, but the amps didn’t even have two hours on them, so a lot more to come after burn in I hope.
I did get a few favourable comments though, so they can’t be that bad!

Have been chatting to other builders, have been advised to alter the feedback, as they felt Rozenblit uses too much, can’t really fault him for that as he doesn’t know what the amps will be used with. So I’ll let them run in and then fiddle with the feedback.

I agree with that statement, I find his Masterpiece (300B) pre-amp benefits (more musical) from less feedback with some of my components.
With that tube compliment I'd sit in front of them during ANY playback or feel guilty while they were burning in unheard, haha!
Do you have enough time on them to comment on DC offset drift?

Not as yet, they haven’t been played since Owston as I’m waiting for pc fans to turn up that I’m going to fit to the base plate. Having the four filament supplies with heat sinks inside a chassis with no ventilation means they are getting a bit toasty- 87 degrees or so. Too high so will fit a silent pc fan to each monoblock to suck air out and cut some holes in the base plate where the heat sinks are and cover with fine mesh to keep the dust out. That should ensure a good airflow over the heatsinks and keep the temp down. Shouldn’t be more than 70 Celsius really.
I have checked the bias several times after they were first set though, and it was very stable. Only about three hours in total on them so far however.

A Masterpiece is next on the list for me, any mods you found good?

just coupling and output caps really. Although I did build with a 6SN7 vs. the 12AU7.
I like Bruce's thrifty designs and low cost parts, however there are a few I feel need to be upgraded slightly to compliment the tubes. Do I spy some Takman carbon film resistors in your build? or all these all kit supplied parts (sans filament supplies and soft start)?

Well spotted, yes Takman carbons, Kiwame, and Mills resistors. Also some decent caps.

Hey Ali, if you’re after fans that displace a lot of air but remain inaudible, Noctua are the most highly regarded and best performing fans in the pc gaming community.
