And a first collection of Schubert from the wonderful Khatia Buniatishvili.
Looking forward to her London recital in a few weeks time.

I fully expect this to be outstanding - the Carducci Quartet are the best chamber outfit I have seen, bar none ...
< the second release of the Carducci’s Shostakovich 15 project, which includes performances of the complete cycles of the Shostakovich Quartets in cities including Washington DC, London, Oxford, Cardiff, Bogota and concerts throughout the UK to mark the 40th anniversary of the composer’s death. >

Coo, really? Never come across them. The Shosty is now on my playlist along with a couple other of their albums.

Thanks J.
I like Nelsons a great deal. Have now saved that and all his other Bruckner in this series. Should be great recordings if anything like his Shosta.
He seems to like his Wagner too - each Bruckner release is accompanied by orchestral Wagner which I’m not at all averse too …

First release for Petrenko & Berlin Phil.
Am hoping for a 'substantial improvement' shall we say ...
Only 3 stars from Guardian.

I'll bet those Kubelik recordings on Orfeo are worth listening to.

The 1690 Tuscan Stradivari Violin Sonatas in 18th-Century Italy
<Recorded in Rome, on an instrument which was originally made for the Florentine court of Ferdinando de Medici (and which, over time, has survived all manner of vicissitudes on its journey to Rome), Fabio Biondi expertly captures the flavour of the Eighteenth Century violin sonata.>

One for you cello boys ...

One for you cello boys ... I had a quick listen, Jules, and admittedly it was using the Q5, not one of my "good" systems, but I wasn't very impressed. Somehow it just didn't seem to hang together for me. The balance between the instruments sounded "off." At some places it almost sounded as if piano and cello were fighting each other. I thought the piano too loud (or the cello too quiet) in places too. I'd be interested to hear what someone playing it on a better system thinks of it. As it is though, I've got the full set played by Steven Isserlis and Robert Levin, and #3 & #5 on a disc by Ma and Ax, and I won't be adding to those.

Completely agree Paul, it's a very poor recording. Even on my desktop system I could tell the balance isn't right. Surprised the review I read didn't pick up on this!

Already released is this year's Summer Night Concert from Vienna. With Dudamel on the podium there was a distinctly American theme to the music, featuring Gershwin, Barber and Copland. Not really my thing but immaculately performed as ever by the Vienna Phil. I will have to resist saying any more about Yuja Wang!
