If I get the boat I want one day, I'll need a 4x4. For that, as you say, it'll have a purpose and not be a Chelsea Tractor.

Used boats are cheap, as are used SWB Shoguns, it's the house near the river and the inability to pop into London or Birmingham that is the issue !

In the rural area where I live Range Rovers, Discovery's, Defenders and other assorted 4 x 4 are everyday vehicles. Mind you, I'm not saying the wifes don't take the kids to school in them. I also have a Renault Master long wheelbase extra high top van, and to be honest, that can be as enjoyable to drive as any car I've owned. A drivers van perhaps ?

I often forget why I have my Saab. Reasons I can remember in that order Seats are fantastic. Long journeys a breeze One of the safest cars ever built, super strong Fold the seats and 6' of cargo deck over 3' wide in the main - plus it will carry heavy weight Air system via a pollen filter - useful for me. Essential for some. Controls just where you want them. No silly reaching. Huge amount of mid range oomph. Easy to drive possibly some others I can't bring to mind

I know, and very tempting. An 18-20' bowrider or deck boat on a trailer is what I want. A Regal would be great but I'll look at any brand. I used to have a Crownline 25' powerboat and it was far too costly to maintain (but wonderful to drive).
I'm just waiting for the house with drive space to keep it, then I'll be buying.

Well, I have had several boats, and for picnicking on the river, small is good, and cheaper all round. This is my boat before it was on the current alongside walk on pontoon. I paid just over half the asking price but then two years later the 8 year old outboard died. After "negotiation" with Mercury they gave me a brand new one with a five year warrantee for half retail price. Many Dartmouth sea anglers and river cruisers use Mercury/Yamaha 60efi's because they are so frugal and cheap to service. Life is too short to wait...............................

There's an awful lot of pounces with boats. I bumped into LOADS when I had mine. Just used them once in a blue moon for nowt bar bragging about. Needless to say I was detested in boating circles as mine was rough n ready but could go anywhere and got well used! Not saying any of you fellas are like that but,if you ever venture onto the Scottish west coast - BEWARE!

Wait I must. I fancy the Regal as it has a drive leg with an inboard V6. I could do all my own servicing on it.

Boaters come in several species but many I've met are perfectly charming people. What I don't like are the untrained Henrys who have more money than sense and have not had powerboat or VHF training (the latter is illegal, but doesn't seem to stop them). The quality of some radio calls between boat and marina beggar belief. Some sailing types can be a bit arrogant towards 'smokers'! Overall, they're a friendly bunch on the south coast.
