Yes, I know, what am I going to do? They're going to think "what is this damned decadent Western music and how can we stop him?"

Hell's bells! I've just unplugged the landline router and turned on the new Three router. The landline was running at 14M down and 1M up. Now look at it.

It's obviously still dicking around finding the best mast to use. Considering that indoor use is marginal here, and it's just on its internal aerials (an external indoor one is on its way), a signal strength of 4 out of 5 bars is much more than I expected.
Upload speed is now reading 27.67M.

Er, wow
This is very big news
Do you notice differences in anything with that huge jump ?

Not half, Mike. The TAS pages refresh more quickly. Netflix and Prime start streaming with less waiting. Last night I tried a YouTube 4K test video at full resolution while Ruth was streaming iPlayer downstairs without even a glitch.
It's impressive.

That is serious (insane) and has to be worth me, and others investigating
When will mobile replace wired and landlines ?

Interesting that the ping is 42ms, must be a lot of infrastructure the data is being routed through. Once it gets going though there's very good download speed. Upload is decent, though not fast. My POTS broadband is 48Mb / 8.5 Mb with a ping of around 8ms.

4G is already impressive for those of us without a decent landline service. If Three's plan to complete UK coverage with 5G comes to fruition, it could be the solution for many people out in the sticks or even in the suburbs. Especially regarding the lack of installation, 5 minutes from unpacking to providing a service, no data cap and very helpful service as I found out this morning.

Routers are mast-switching, data is multiplexed with hoards of other users, etc. I've just done a test on my phone with BT/EE data and it gives 28ms but I'm on 5 bars of signal strength at the moment. To be honest, long pings are only going to be of great interest to gamers, and I don't do games. For streaming, it's irrelevant.

Agreed, pings matter for initial response - ie real-time situation but for streaming and even web-pages there won't be any noticeable difference. Controlling drone - maybe.

Yes this is generally why I have stuck with Three over the years - they are serious about customer service. I will definitely look at them for broadband when my current Sky contact is up. I couldn't find anywhere on their website that estimates what speeds to expect. Maybe you have to phone up for this. Nice to see it is working out for you.

Don't mention ping to me LOL. Having a gamer in the house means doomsday scenarios if the ping doesn't pass muster ...

It's virtually impossible as a small positioning of the router can make a big difference. If you're already on Three, just put your phone where you would expect to locate the router and run the Speedtest app.

On Three cellular, I get 3mb!! That answers the question for you, then. A Three 4G Hub would not be a good move.

Yes - just turn off the wi-fi, then use the app Speedtest.
