Anyone done this and happy ?
Our line and unlimited calls is £19+8 per month But we don't use the phone that much
We stream a few hours TV a day
Is mobile a safe and viable option ?

I think I've proven that it can be done. My 4G router gives about 60Mbps and is very reliable. If you can live with mobile phones and a 4G router I'd say do it.
You might have to go with a mesh disc wi-fi system to cover the house, but that goes for both landline or mobile solutions.

Thanks Martin The main reason would be saving dough, at the expense of flexibility, IE when there are problems a wired land line would work through
What sort of money to set up and per month ?

The 4G router cost about £80.
As for SIM-only contracts, it depends who with and how much data. I have 30GB per month at £20 with BT, but that won't cover lots of Netflix viewing, for instance.

Seems best to stick as we are then. Too easy to click on TV with the Amazon stick. Assume much the same as Netflix. Must fix one of my many Tivos. Skill would be useful.....
Will keep an eye out for end of contract and deals for phone and broadband

We had unlimited broadband and a phone Europe package for £25/Mon. The contract came to an end and they wanted £40! I called, asked if there was anything they could do, or I'd leave.. they tried a bit but nothing much doing, and I said right I'm leaving you.. They then put me through customer retention, they have the real deal making power. I said we don't use the landline phone.. £40 is far too much etc etc. I got unlimited fibre and calls at regular price for £15/Mon. We never use the landline.. were getting loads of junk calls from India.. it's now unplugged.. We use Messenger to call Sweden and family in UK a lot, a bit of mobile phone for other stuff. Works fine for us.. It pays to shop around and threaten to leave

Threatened to leave Plusnet and got about £1 a month off from memory. Will prepare better for the next renewal

Our Plusnet line-based broadband is up for renewal soon. Their service has been good but I'm not happy with the speeds we're getting. We started off at around 20Mbps in this house and it has slowly deteriorated to a measured 14Mbps today. There seems little chance of improving it as Openreach are responsible for the line and Plusnet won't accept a fault report if we're getting better than the guaranteed minimum of about 9Mbps.
I am thinking of switching to Three with their unlimited mobile data and a Huawei 4G router. I already use mobile data in the music room and that works a treat, but that plan is capped at 100GB per month, which is fine for music but not for TV. I also would rather stick with two different services as the BT/EE mast is across the A30 whereas the Three mast is across the fields, visible in the distance. If one fails, I can tether a phone for emergency use.
One thing that'll go is the home phone. It wouldn't bother me at all to just use our mobiles but I have to talk to Ruth about it.

14mb is appalling Martin - it's not like you are living on a remote Scottish island!! We are close to the furthest reach of VDSL broadband, which is about 9km from the cabinet. That's all we can get and there is no way of improving that service short of using something else entirely. This is where 4G comes in.

I've been with Three for so many years now and always found their customer service to be excellent on the rare occasions I have needed it. But this is only for my mobile, not broadband.

14mb is appalling Martin - it's not like you are living on a remote Scottish island!! Or in Deep Gloucestershire. Until quite recently we were getting 6mb/s on landline and that was considered good for the general area! The system was recently updated with great Fanfare from BT. Glory be, we now get about 15mb/s. Luxury! You City slickers don't know how well off you are. The mobile coverage is crap, too.

Yikes!
I have to make do with 70mb.
One of the better things about living in London - there are plenty of crap things too!

Thankfully, mobile coverage is good enough for my music streaming. The TP-Link router shows 2-3 bars out of 4 for signal strength and gives me anything around 30-60Mbps speed.

Living in rural Hampshire end of village and have 60-70meg.
They are saying we will get fibre all the way quite soon👍
All our TV comes via broadband these days.
Mobile for all calls, don't even have the landline phone plugged in - no silent, abandoned or scam callers!

Ruth, she say no as her mother couldn't cope.
With a new telephone number to ring.
Don't even go there, I've tried.
I need plan B. It may involve renewing Plusnet for one year for the phone only, then going for Three. I've requested a test SIM to see what the signal is like. Maps put us in between good indoors and outdoors, and just good outdoors.
