Ian Venables - chamber music. Neo-romantic in the tradition of the English pastoralists, is how I would describe him. Really rather excellent! open.qobuz.com/album/0748871010123

True. But the playing is wonderful. This album goes straight into the small and select group of my favourite Goldbergs.

That cover is shocking!! Nonsense. I find it to be not only "fab," but "groovy," too.

This should clear the cobwebs out of your system. Something of a sonic tour de force. Wagner orchestral Ring excerpts. Actually, the Acousence label's entire catalogue seems well worth exploring, the ones I have so far tried have sounded excellent! open.qobuz.com/album/aommkbzfni6yc

I love the 15th. Agree about the depth, that opening flute is way back in a big hall, not to mention the trumpet later on.
Outstanding recording. Earthquake in the locality with that bass drum.
Have you ever heard the Rozhdestvensky recording on JVC?

Have you ever heard the Rozhdestvensky recording on JVC? Decades ago I had all the Rozh / Shosty symphonies I could find at reasonable price on CD. In the end I decided I much preferred other recordings and sold them all. I don't know what I'd think of them now!

Yes, his 15th is idiosyncratic with strange orchestral placement and an engineer keen to play with the faders.
The impact, though, is stunning. I still have the CD but have never found it on streaming.

Two of my favourite works - a nice late night headphone session!

"2nd violin concerto" by Larry Sitsky as suggested by Paul Slinger - great choice!!
