I had high hopes for this Rach set from Paavo Jarvi but the first couple of minutes of Symphony 3 are just so all over the place I'm not sure I can be bothered to listen any further ...
Still not found anything better than Previn or Ashkenazy for this favourite symphony of mine.

Well, I think you're a bit harsh! Definitely more laidback than Ashkenazy, the latter being more explosive and exciting. PJ rather 'molds' the phrasing, stretching things rather, here and there. But I rather like it.

'Molds the phrasing?' He certainly does, and takes more liberties than Arthur Daley with it! Nah, can't be doing with it guvnor.

... Yes, I see what you mean. Molding the sound arbitrarily - it's quite like listening to Tannoy speakers!

Excellent performance of the Tchaik Violin Concerto, with superb playing from Alena Baeve. And a mighty fine Romeo & Juliet Ov as well.

From Eric Lu's new Chopin 24 Preludes ... Just beautiful.

I'm listening now, Jerry. It's a different sound world.
I find the words distracting - I rather like choral music sung in another language so that I don't understand them.

I know what you mean, Martin - but I find the sound of the vocals sufficiently ethereal that I can ignore their actual meaning!

I like the music but am hugely irritated by the overlaid crackles - sounds like a dirty LP, the guy must be hankering after his long gone vinyl collection. open.qobuz.com/album/fj0gs6dcdik2a

Karajan on the keyboard, not sure if I've ever seen that before.

Karajan on the keyboard, not sure if I've ever seen that before. Not any old keyboard - a harpsichord!

Look for Ēriks Ešenvalds' "Amazing Grace" and "O Emmanule" They're on his album "Northern Lights and Other Choral Works" which I've got. He does an incredibly dramatic "St Luke Passion" too.

Klemperer's Mahler 9 - my gosh, I had no idea - it's wonderful! Great sq, too - Golden Age EMI. I recall being similarly amazed by Klemperer's Eroica a year or 2 back. open.qobuz.com/album/0724356703650
