I'm going to put that Shostakovich on later, maybe give John a blast of the 8th when he comes over.
You're not kidding about stormy - again!

Nice cover design too ... what's the verdict Jerry? Russia's state run recording company (or is Melodiya privately owned now?) with Russia's greatest composer. They must be serious about it! I just read that Melodiya was just sold at auction for 'peanuts'! What a legacy to piss away in the wind ... < The sale price was 329.6 million rubles, which is a little over $5 million. But the two buildings that house the Melodiya recordings – at Karamyshevskaya embankment, 44, and Tverskaya Boulevard, 24/1 – are valued at 300-350 million. So the recordings were essentially given away for free with the real estate. >

That's shocking. Melodiya made some superb recordings and all they care about are the buildings?

Shostakovich - Symphony No. 6
I tried this one but unfortunately the recording is shrill.
Then I went back to an old favourite, the Haitink. Marvellous. His 12th is really good, too.

This is an astonishing performance. I'm blown away by his voicing, control and sensitivity.

This fits somewhere between Contemporary Classical and folk. A simple but yet beautiful melody

This is rather good (one of this month's freebies from NAXOS) and there's none of that nasty singing nonsense that you chaps seem to dislike so much.
