Do you connect to the negative of the router input with the ground box? I already covered this back in 2022. I made an adapter from a 2.1mm DC plug, 2.1 chassis socket and heat shrink to provide a wire for a croc clip from the grounding box to the router -ve terminal. My DIY skills and electricity make me wary of making one Is there a thing we could buy ?

My router has spare ethernet outlets I use this to go to the grounding box via an ethernet cable that is cut off at one end. I might not be talking about the right connection

This is what I would assume would work to carry the ground from the router if it has metal rj45 sockets.

Beware that router RJ45 sockets are likely to be transformer isolated. The only way to ensure grounding a router is via the DC power -ve terminal.

I have always done it this way, including the last time you visited. I just forgot to do it on a separate box. It is not adding any noise in my system that I can tell

It is not adding any noise in my system that I can tell That's not what I'm saying, John. I just think that with many routers, with their plastic cases and transformer isolated RJ45 sockets, the only guaranteed way of connecting to the PCB ground plane is via the -ve power terminal.

I think lowering the noise floor is important on a transparent digital based system, it helps makes the music flow, improve detail retrieval, increased impact and dynamic swings. I don't have a dedicated space to go the extra mile like Martin and Tony. I am getting linear power supplies for the laptop so not too add more mains noise. The trouble with Headphones is that this becomes more critical, due to the near field listening. I have also added grounding boxes to the earth mains. I can only go so far with this approach. But I am not in a position to change it.

Are you not using a Sapphire cable, Mike? They use metal plugs.

eBay, I guess. You want a 4mm plug-in large croc clip (if you use the same QA/AliExpress cables as I do). www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363822973904May be a bit large!

Yes, my croc clips only just open wide enough for them.

Yes, my croc clips only just open wide enough for them. Doable but very awkward, especially when operating blind at the back of the box

I just made a mini ground box for my router after the inspiration here.
I used a copper lug with a 4mm hole. I drilled the hole to 5.5mm and made sure it was a tight fit over the barrel of the DC plug. Applied mad scientist graphene too.
Works really well, definitely quieter streaming .

I have moved the debate on router grounding to this thread.

I'm withdrawing any recommendation for sorbothane. I've finally clocked that whenever I use an old sorbothane puck to support a cable it introduces a shouty glare to the music. Today I removed three that I installed a couple of days ago and that shoutiness has gone.
Black Ravioli never does this.
Sorbothane is going the way of spikes for me: banished!

On the router topic I use a usb port to the grounding box and that works well. Although I know not all routers have usb ports.
I am using one of the AliExpress grounding cables recommended here, it’s usb one end and banana plug the other.
