Most of my settings were derived from here, on the Rune forum, I'm just implementing them with Volumio. I've had zero stability problems.

Ok, so I'm now running these settings and it all sounds very good. I've omitted the default settings already provided with Volumio.
arm_freq=666 sdram_freq=333 core_freq=400 gpu_freq=333 over_voltage=-10 over_voltage_sdram=-4 hdmi_blanking=1

As far as I've been able to determine the hdmi_blanking works like this...
hdmi_blanking=0: HDMI Output will be blank when DPMS is triggered hdmi_blanking=1: HDMI Output will be disabled when DPMS is triggered hdmi_blanking=2: HDMI Output will be disabled on boot and can be enabled using the above-listed commands.
Hence why mine is set to "2"

Thanks, Paul. I'll look again but when I referenced that command there didn't appear to be a "2" option. Could be for an older version of the OS.

I've seen it referenced on Github, and the Moode forum too, but for some reason, it's not in the current Pi documentation. There's an interesting thread here...

Interesting, and not very conclusive! It seems that this is also a possibility...
hdmi_ignore_hotplug=1 hdmi_ignore_composite=1 More reading required.

I looked at that and wondered if the GUI may not come up, depending on what services are required.
Ah well, it's just an SD card rewrite if it all goes pear shaped!

What are your main items via the Pi ? (if not Spotty)

Paul What are your main items via the Pi ? (if not Spotty) The Pi is cabled to my network, and so is my Synology DS211j Network Attached Storage (NAS) which is acting as both as storage and backup for all of my music files. The Volumio software "sees" my NAS and plays the music files from it. I've been using the NAS to back up my music files for years (I used to play them from a USB external hard drive via JRiver on the PC) so everything was pretty much already there for me. The NAS has two 2GB discs, one for storage and the other as an exact duplicate, for backup. It currently has almost 6,350 albums on it and is 73% full.

I use it for Radio Paradise once in a while, and I've bookmarked a few good blues radio stations, but that's about all.

YouTube not good for you ?
I use it a lot

I use YouTube quite often, but only directly on the PC. I've got the SMSL Q5 + Celestion DL4s2 + 8" sub combo for sound on the PC, which is quite adequate. It seems daft going through an extra step by involving Volumio.

Have any of you Linux guys tried Snakeoil operating system?
Curious to know as I’d like to know which is best.
I’ve been using it for months now, much better than even an ultra optimised (Audiophile optimiser, process lasso and one other I forget working as a trio) W10 professional install I had before.

Looks a very clean and striped down OS Are you using this on PC I went down the route of process Lasso, Ferdaliser that was running BugHead on a fanless server with a Hypex Linear power supply using W!0 I much prefer the DigiOne using Volumio as no faffing about and better sound quality. I am now off the opinion W10 and a PC is not the best setup for sound quality. Yes lots you can do to improve it, like adding a dedicated soundcard but the costs really start to stack up. I think the way to go is to keep the platform simple with the best quality you can use with a stable player dedicated to audio playback.

Yeah, I was always scared of Linux but my hand was forced when Windows 10 broke its compatability with the Amanero drivers my fav uses. I’ve got a dedicated audio pc I’ve done lots of work on (better clock for the mobo, upgraded clock for SOTM USB output card, Paul Hynes psu with separate rails for everything, etc etc). It’s been fun upgrading it but as you mention, the cost rockets and the amount of fucking about I’ve had to do with it to get it where I want it - if I had the time again I’d have just bought a dedicated solution. When it dies that’s where I’ll go in future.

I never got into Linux, buI used to run a SCO Unix box at work. I had to write my own stuff to get it to do precisely what I wanted it to, write complicated SQL queries, sacrifice the odd virgin, and keep a cauldron bubbling in the corner of the office for emergencies. Arcane knowlege, and a pointy hat with a propeller on top were de rigueur. Bughead reminded me a bit of that. I don't think I've seen such a user UN-friendly interface on any OS. Give me a Pi, Volumio, and my NAS any day of the week.
