As a Qobuz streamer, Volumio works fine for me, too. How does that work Martin, is it part of My Volumio?

Ah right, I might have to give that a go before taking the plunge - thanks

I might have to try Volumio on a more powerful computer before handing in the towel, as my current setup really can't cope with 4,500 FLAC albums. Worked beautifully with a few hundred, but it's fooked with all of them.
Slinger seems to be ok with more than that, so probably my Netbook isn't up to the job.

I do remember prior to Volumio version 2.xx even on a fairly robust NAS system Volumio would stall and not allow me add any more flac albums. Can’t recall that exact amount but I believe it stalled at about 15-20 gig. Currently working with a ~60 gig NAS music folder and not a problem. I am streaming via WiFi to my stereo. If you make a change to a more powerful system one suggestion would be to not sync your music folder at one go. Maybe divide it up a little on the initial sync.

My FLAC library is currently 1.4TB so splitting that up would be possible, but a pain to be honest. I know it's not a huge task but I really want (and am used to) a simple system that works and once setup, pretty much zero maintenance. That's another of my niggles with Volumio, you have to rescan the library if you add new music. You don't have to do that with JRiver or Roon, it's automatic. Rip to the folder and a minute later the album pops up. I can't fault it's sound quality, but for me it's a step backwards regarding usability. I guess a lot depends on your priorities? I will try it on a 4 core 3.00+ GHz with loads of RAM system, but I'll still have to compromise to get it all to work how I want. Spotify sounds great, but Connect can be very flaky - again that might be the Netbook, but I don't think it is. We shall see - I can't really complain as it's free, but it's just a short stretch away from ticking all my boxes. Maybe I'm just too fussy I've just bought a new JRiver master licence today for the up coming version 27. Next step here is to try JRiver on Linux, which might be what I'm after anyway. I really don't want to run Windows 10 on a headless server, those f****** forced updates do my head in, which is a good reason to like Volumio, it's not Microsoft.

Just a quick aide-memoire: I'm running two Synology NAS boxes, each of which has 2x2Tb drives configured as RAID 1. #1 (Non-Classical) is showing as 64% full and #2 (Classical) is 34% full.

Thanks Slinger - are they FLAC files on the NAS?

Thanks Slinger - are they FLAC files on the NAS? I'd say that they're mostly FLAC files, Tim. If I get stuff in WAV, or any other lossless format, I generally convert it to FLAC just for the sake of conformity. There are still a fair few MP3 files though, when that's been the only format I could source bootlegs etc. in.

Thanks.
Actually, just had a thought, I think I'll split my Classical which I have yet to rip. That's probably only going to be around 300 to 400GB, so that would be an idea, just use Volumio for Classical music. I like that idea.
It's a job I've been putting off for ages, but I seem to be at home at lot now, so might have the time!

Martin laughed when I bought the second Synology box "just because it was a bargain," but as my original started filling up faster than I thought I was glad I jumped on it, and splitting my Classical and Non-Classical files seemed the logical way to go.

I think it's a good idea keeping classical apart - I never wanted to have classical music all mixed in with my normal FLAC library, scrolling through Be Bop Deluxe and Beethoven in the same space just seems wrong.
I've never got around to ripping them as I can never decide on a naming convention for the metadata. It's a nightmare and everyone has a different idea. Work, Composer, Orchestra, Conductor . . . which way to prioritise with so many variations? You only have to look at stats in Last.fm to see it's a bit of a jumble when it comes to classical. Roon gets mixed up too.

Composer (or main named composer if a compilation, or Various), name of main work, orchestra or performer, conductor, soloist.
That's the system by which my CDs are sorted, but there are tricky exceptions.

That's kind of what I've decided on Martin. Part of the issue is having a template that is Last.fm friendly too - life might be simpler if I just didn't bother about Last.fm, but I do enjoy using it.
I started ripping my classical recently and have probably decided upon this for metadata;
Artist: Bruckner, Anton Album: Symphony No. 7 in E major Album Artist: Eugen Jochum - Berlin Philharmonic
That seems to work fine for the ripping software and media players I use.
As you say though, classical can be tricky, especially with multiple works from the same conductor and orchestra.
I'm actually scanning my NAS at the moment with Volumio on a x86 platform with an AMD A8 5500 CPU (4 cores 3.2GHz) and 16GB RAM. It's flying through the scan like nobodies business, faster than both Roon or JRiver on the same hardware. Early testing reveals it sounds better than the Netbook. Headless always was better than any laptop I've tried, but this setup also benefits from an extremely good Seasonic fanless power supply. It's ripple measurements are very low indeed.

No award from me this evening! Qobuz is just missing from Volumio. Can't figure out how to get it back. Logged in, source set up, signed in etc. ☹️
