This is odd. I've just fired up Volumio for the first time in four or five days, and it's now showing the correct version number. I've done nothing to it. Mine has somehow corrected its version number. I'm wondering now if mine was the problem I've had in the past where I've needed to reboot the ATB/Pi more than once for something to register. As for intermittent faults... when I was a BT engineer one of the most hated scenarios we faced was when a fault simply cleared up all on its own, sometimes after hours of banging our heads against the problem, pulling mates in to help us out, and running every test known to man plus a few more besides. After wasting hours, and on some occasions days, we had to write the fault off as "FNF" or Fault Not Found, knowing that tomorrow, or next week, or next month, it was probably going to happen all over again.

Yes, I hear you, it was the same when I was a service engineer. The worst machines were electro-mechanical like Teletypes and card punches. I hated those things. Early computers built using b-grade chips (RM, anyone?) were not much fun, either. Intermittent as hell

volumio updated and rebooted automatically as part of the update process: Still showing the previous version number. Manually restarted Volumio twice: Still showing the previous version number. Powered Volumio down and restarted: Version number updated.

We sometimes had intermittent faults going over months.

Interesting developments in the Volumio forum, Slinger . I'm trying really hard to get mine to update, getting a bit frustrating as I can't fathom why most users are able to without bother.

The logical faulting method would be...
Strip all of the extras/plugins out of your Volumio install (Spotify etc.) Reboot your clean Volumio Attempt to update clean Volumio
If the update is successful grab an older version of Volumio and revert to that. Add your extras back one at a time and attempt to update again. Rinse and repeat until you find out what's breaking it.

Remember, I tried updating a plain unconfigured Volumio as part of that test. Untouched, no plug-ins and it still wouldn't update.
It has to be environmental: router, ISP or DNS.

I thought I'd try the YouTube plugin.🙄😒😰🤯😱😤😠 No way to generate the needed code in Volumio. It's just blank in the code field. Uninstall / reinstall plugin no help. I updated to the latest 2.692 Volumio version. Still the same.
Searched up and eventually found 2 other souls have reported the same thing, 15th & 20th Dec..
At least Spotify still works 😀

The YouTube plug-in should generate a code that you then put into google/devices which then activates things.
I've never seen it blank. Oh well, I'll swap you for mine never updating properly!

Yeah. I never have any problems with the auto update. I don't remove any plug-ins or configs (drive mappings etc).
What do you see if you look at the YouTube plugin settings at the code field?

Well, I'll be damned. It looks like the latest Volumio OS has screwed the YouTube plugin. I'm getting a blank code field now.
Time to look for a bug report in the Volumio forum.

I've given up with OTA updates for the time being. I blasted the SD card with 2.692 and set it all up. Everything is working fine again. The new Spotify plug-in is much improved with the Authorise button that gets playlists and such to work properly.

Oh, I see that you have added to the thread, Steve? A further thread there revealed that the Volumino team could be working on a fix that would take about Christmas +20 days or so.. I was just curious so will wait..

Oh, I hope for a fix too. I just prefer to be on the latest version and it only takes 30 minutes to burn a new SD card and configure it all up again. At least with the Asus there's no messing with SSH and config.txt as there was with the Pi. USB makes it easier than I2S, and no wi-fi or NAS helps, too.

Hi everyone, I read here that some of you are having problems with Volumio's YouTube plugin, and would like to point out that I've uploaded an unofficial version of the plugin to the Volumio forums here. It requires creating your own Google API credentials, which is free and not that complicated if you follow my instructions. The problem with the current official plugin is that Volumio disabled / removed the API credentials which they were using for the plugin, so all you see is a blank code in the plugin settings. Furthermore, Google sets a daily quota on the number of operations allowed by a particular set of credentials, so if the quota gets exceeded then operations like searching will fail. I think that happened with the official plugin a while back - too many people were using the plugin and ate up the quota placed on the API credentials used by Volumio, which in turn led to occasional errors. Maybe that's the reason why Volumio disabled / removed their API credentials and break the official plugin altogether. So I think it's useful to have the ability to specify your own credentials as any quota can only be consumed by you (worth noting is you can purchase more quota from Google if need be). If you also experience a playback cutoff problem with YouTube streams, then having the latest MPD version running could also help (also by me ). Have fun, and I'm open to any feedback and suggestions! Best regards, Patrick

Thanks for that advice, Patrick. I will find some time to look at your plug-in.
