I've just seen that on Text, Mike. It's certainly a step in the right direction. Call me a cynic, but I'm guessing that there is some sort of "seizure" component involved though, so the police/government/somebody stands to make a few bob off of it. I'll put up with that This lot can fund the NHS and more. Could literally damage our economy though. Dodgy money will leave

Police dog Finn's law comes into force
A new law named after a police dog which recently appeared on Britain's Got Talent has come into effect. German shepherd Finn was stabbed and seriously hurt as he protected PC Dave Wardell from an attacker in 2016. Nicknamed "Finn's Law", the new legislation makes it harder for those who harm service animals to claim they were acting in self-defence. PC Wardell, who has led calls for the change in the law, said the pair's journey had been " incredible". Appearing on ITV's Britain's Got Talent, PC Wardell described Finn as a " lovely, lovely lad" The father-of-three and Finn reached the final of ITV's primetime variety show with a magic act that moved the judges to tears. " This law is the only reason I put myself on stage in front of nine million people," said PC Wardell, who is still a serving officer. He began campaigning for the new Animal Welfare (Service Animals) Act after Finn - now retired - saved his life when a knife-wielding robbery suspect attacked them in Stevenage in 2016. Finn was stabbed in the chest and head and was not expected to survive. PC Wardell was stabbed in the hand. A 16-year-old boy from London was found guilty of causing PC Wardell actual bodily harm. Under the previous law, the attack on Finn could only be treated as criminal damage. PC Wardell said this has made it difficult for the judge to "put a value on property" when deciding on a sentence. " Service animals until now have fallen through legal loopholes," he said. 'An amazing character'
The new law was an attempt to " take the model of Australia and Canada" and " right that wrong", he said. PC Wardell said he would now push for increased sentences on all animal welfare cases, and a consultation is currently under way to amend the Animal Welfare Act in Scotland. " Finn is an incredible dog and an amazing character," he said. " He could be in a primary school for book readings one minute - and breaking up a pub fight the next. " I'm immensely proud of him."

I met Finn and his owner when he was brought to my place of work for a talk a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say, he went down a storm.

GP sent me to a Dermatologist for a skin look over yesterday. He had mentioned possibility of cancer but I didn't take it seriously. Don't worry about possibles as a matter of course.
"Do I get sunburnt ?" Eh ? Not for about 30 years Turns out I have Sun damage, probably from all those years ago.
He stressed 2 or 3 times I don't have skin cancer. Afterwards I realised my appointment was quick from seeing the GP so maybe he took it more seriously than me.
Nice guy, foreign I asked him where from Greece
Thanks you very much for working in our NHS. Sorry about all this Brexit rubbish
Keep out of the sun guys

I avoid direct exposure to the sun, dislike intense heat.
Good outcome for you, Mike, even if a little scary.

Like Martin, I keep out of direct sunlight. It's not because I'm a vampire, like Martin, it's just that I'm very "fair-skinned." I tend not to tan, I just go from white to red to peeling. The last time I actually spent a few hours in the sun (probably four or five hours) was on holiday with my parents, on the south coast. Yes, it was that long ago. I spent most of the evening and all night throwing up, and the next day I was covered in blisters and spent a couple of days in bed. Great holiday that. I could literally wipe a hand across my forearm and it would come back wet where my skin was so blistered and tender. SPF numbers mean little to me; generally speaking my protection from the sun is a Panama hat , sunglasses, and the rest is knitted on.

The surprise is that I also keep out of the sun In future I will avoid it even more. On the bike in hot weather needs thought or complete abstinence

Mad dogs and Englishmen.. I find if I expose myself to the sun in a controlled manner, 20mins per day for a few days then ramp up I have no problems. Also starting early in the year being out when the sun is not so strong, builds tan gradually. If it's sunny and I'm going to be out for any length of time in it, I put sun cream on. I do tan but not in the native southern European sense. Once I'm lightly tanned only very long exposure / no cream, which I don't do, would give problems. HiFi playback room vampires & lounge lizards need to get out too

Thought I was fine last year ramping up slowly as I go out as naked as possible as soon as I can. Forearms burned a bit on a couple of very hot days. Sunscreen maybe if we have a Summer

The common knowledge today about sun damage wasn't so common 30 or 40 years ago so there's of course the potential for sun damage for a lot of people.
I'm still shocked though if you go to the coast in this country and you see people sitting in deckchairs red as lobsters - where's the pleasure in that??
