About bloody time. It should never have been an issue in the first place.

Net neutrality safe at least for now
Must have been my signature on this petition. This had me worried especially with Trump arond
Dear Mike,
I’m writing to share some great news! Yesterday, the Senate passed a resolution to reinstate the net neutrality rules that guarantee free and open access to the internet for all Americans.
I was proud to coauthor the resolution the Senate passed. This is a great victory for Michigan’s students, businesses, and families!
We would not have won without your support. Your emails, calls, letters, and social media posts made the difference. So thank you for speaking out! As this moves to the House for consideration, I hope you’ll continue to make your voice heard.
As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me to share your opinions or if I can be of assistance to you or your family.
Sincerely, Debbie Stabenow United States Senator

Gosh you seem to have been particularly motivated by that cause, what with "your emails, calls, letters, and social media posts", Mike!

The government has slashed the maximum bet on addictive gambling machines to just £2. It makes it that much harder for gambling companies to exploit vulnerable people to boost their profits.
Addictive gambling machines allowed people to gamble up to £100 every 20 seconds. (!!) They were ruining lives, plunging people into debt, and tearing families apart. Now that the maximum stake has been slashed to £2, it means people can’t be tricked into gambling away their life savings in an afternoon. They have a chance to get back on their feet again.

It is staggering to think that it was the New Labour government, not the Tories, who de-regulated gambling in 2005.

Didn't realise that. After the gambling taxes generated ? £100 every 20 seconds took my breath away.

I saw a recovering gambler interviewed about the new £2.00 limit and his opinion was that it might help in some small way but all the time people can walk out of the bookmakers' shop and instantly start gambling on their phone, or tablet, it's nowhere near the marvelous solution it's being touted as.

Is it really our responsibility to worry about people who insist on throwing their money away?

Is it really our responsibility to worry about people who insist on throwing their money away? It's an illness, like alcoholism, or drug addiction, so the answer is probably yes, Martin. When people are spending their entire pay-packets on gambling it's obviously gone way beyond personal choice. I bought my wife a sticker for the back window of the car that read: "Just because you can't see my disability doesn't mean I'm not disabled." The same applies to gamblers who, without help, will ruin their own lives and the lives of their friends and family.

I'm afraid you've hit my 'tough love' area with that lot.
Gambling, alcoholism and drugs. 'Get a grip' is my first, somewhat unsympathetic, response. Sorry, I just can't be arsed with such people when there are so many who are ill and cannot cure themselves.

I look at it from the 'other side'. There are organisations making huge amounts of money from screwing people (who may or may not be addicted or stupid) into the ground. This is out of order.
Very happy to hear that payday loans are being targeted

Very happy to hear that payday loans are being targeted I don't disagree, Mike, they're bottom-feeding scumbags. I was thinking more from the point of view of my sympathy, which lies with the terminally ill who can do nothing to help fix themselves.
