I can certainly tell it's recorded live, the sub-bass air movements are quite potent in places. Lovely recording!

I would suggest exploring some other baroque composers that may appeal to you before launching into other areas ...

Some Vivaldi and Bach will give you a good view of how different two composers can be from the same era.

Amazon has a 6 CD set entitled "100 Best Baroque" currently selling for £13.45. I'd be inclined to start out with something like that. It's not a bunch of duffers, by the way. There are some top-notch artists on it. Some of the Classic FM compilations are excellent value too. It's a great way of hearing a lot of composers for very little outlay. Actually, thinking about it, they're probably available on Spotify too.

Mike - thought you might like something else for your playlist as I think you've finished with recent recommendations … This has three fabulous and very exotic works. The first, Scheherazade, is in my top 3 of all time. The melodies, the orchestration and the solo violin are all sublime. You also have another shorter Rimsky-Korsakov work, Capriccio Espagnol, which is also a great favourite. Finally there is another highly colourful work by Borodin, who was also Russian - Polovtsian Dances. It’s a bit confusing as spoti have taken Scheherazade from a highly respected 1965 performance conducted by Stokowski with the London Symphony Orchestra, but the other two works are from a different release. I have all of these individual works but with different conductors. I thought it would be good for you to have a listen to this one as it has all three works together but if the 2nd and 3rd performances are lacking in any way I will give you alternative recordings ... It's also interesting as Scheherazade is a Decca 'Phase 4' recording - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase_4_StereoI'm going to listen to this myself as I quite fancy a Phase 4 pressing to see how they sound in my system. I don't believe I own any unless I've forgotten one! It might help you enjoy the work even more with a bit of background - have a quick look at wiki but don’t get bogged down the technical bits! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scheherazade_(Rimsky-Korsakov)As ever, play loud ...

Demoing my system yesterday for a buyer of my Isobariks I'm going senile... I was reminiscing recently about some happy times I had in the mid 80's and wondered if, knowing what I know, I was able to get some 1983/84 Isobariks (MDF cabs and 90 degree XLR's before KEF effed up the B110 mid drivers), whether I could still get half decent sounds from them with modern not-Naim gear. The question didn't last long I must admit, but it lingers a little

Isobariks do deliver a very good sound.
Listened to Aurum Montans at £5000 and heard only a step up. Chord SPM 1200E did a fine job into the Isobariks. Still got to sell my original direct entry XLR Isobariks...

If you fancy another version sometime Mike, there are many other fine recordings.
Here’s a very famous one from Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra … From RCA’s Living Stereo series.
Possibly slightly more refined in performance but no shortage of excitement either …
