I tried a vegan sausage roll from Greggs today. It wasn’t half bad. Seems to have been a game changer. Greggs have done very well with it

If you are vegan why would you possibly want something that reminds you of a meat sausage??

Doesn't make me think of meat. Forget the percentage of meat in meat sausages but it ain't a lot

30-40% minimum meat in a sausage.

So 30% it is then ! And few have any idea what that comprises. The not so nice stuff predominates

Tastes good though. Sorry, I just don't get the appeal of vege burgers and sausages etc.

Tastes good though. Sorry, I just don't get the appeal of vege burgers and sausages etc. I've always assumed them to be some sort of "bridge" food. I don't believe them to be designed for dedicated vegans/vegetarians but more for the veg-curious. Let's face it, more people are probably likely to try a vegetarian sausage or burger, than exactly the same stuff presented as just stuff. Omnivores are more comfortable with food shapes and names that they can easily recognise. Once they've been hooked and reeled in you can sell them slabs of tofu and tell them to get on with it.

Tastes good though. Sorry, I just don't get the appeal of vege burgers and sausages etc. In the early 80s I decided I couldn't eat my newly arrived dogs so wouldn't eat any other animals or fish either. Didn't know how I would manage it. Fortunately there were ready meals. Most tasted very nice. Many veggie meals were a revelation.

I could quite happily eat fish every day if I could.

I will very happily never eat fish.
I accidentally put a fish sauce on my pasta at work last week. I nearly chundered and had to leave it. I just can't stomach anything that tastes fishy!

I wouldn't want to live in a world without smoked salmon... or prawns. And smoked haddock, and Tuna, and cod in batter, and my favourite, lemon sole, or even basa fillets in tempura batter, or... I really like fish, and seafood. Proper whelks are gorgeous, and those little brown shrimp in a chilli sauce... and jellied eels, or smoked eel.

I wouldn't want to live in a world without smoked salmon... or prawns. Amen to that, Brother Paul.

Joaquin Phoenix accepting the Oscar for Best Actor, gave a beautiful, humble speech about his own flaws and his belief in what he considers "the best of humanity": our most important trait, compassion for others.
excerpt :
we've become very disconnected from the natural world. And many of us, what we're guilty of, is an egocentric worldview, the belief that we're the centre of the universe. We go into the natural world and we plunder it for its resources.
We feel entitled to artificially inseminate a cow, and when she gives birth, we steal her baby, even though her cries of anguish are unmistakable. And then we take her milk that's intended for her calf and we put it in our coffee and our cereal, and I think we fear the idea of personal change, because we think that we have to sacrifice something, to give something up. But human beings, at our best, are so inventive and creative and ingenious, and I think that when we use love and compassion as our guiding principles, we can create, develop, and implement systems of change that are beneficial to all sentient beings and to the environment.

Yes, was listening to You and Yours about a mixed meat / vegan producer. He said meat/dairy free had increased market share 15% in a year for him. Dairy and meat fallen back proportionately. They are expanding their plant based foods accordingly. He saw no end to the trend.
Who was it who described dairy milk as filtered cow pus?🙂

Cow milk is for baby cows

I love far too many different cheeses far too much to forgo the pleasures of milk-based products I'm afraid. Haloumi cheese, for instance, is the milk trifecta. It's made with goat's milk and ewe's milk, but some types use cow's milk as well.

I tried a Greggs vegan sausage roll this week - took a bite, then went looking for the nearest bin.
Frankenfood.
Interesting to try it, but I won't be repeating the exercise. I'll stick with fish and chips when out and about
