Oh, I'll be buying winter tyres for my spare wheels - lesson learned!
I still have to assess when I'll be able to move my car when we get back. All staff are being sent home at lunchtime due to the deteriorating weather forecast.

Kent Police announced that there had been 59 accidents during the rush-hour this morning, 20 of them within a 5 minute period.

I wasn't going anywhere until I checked I had a Doc appointment at 9.30 so left early to clear snow off the car, assuming it started ! Our little road packed snow and ice as expected, next road much the same. B road fairly good and A road to the Doc mostly clear. Hardly any traffic. Part of our conversation GP says I'm due a blood test so fix up an appointment Receptionist : Can you make the other surgery for 10.30 ? Surprising so quick. Oh, yes certainly Traffic again very quiet. Nurse who did my blood said she could have seen me earlier as there were so many cancellations. Roads weren't that bad at all. Odd people cancel such things. Coming out was fun. Slight rise from the other surgery. Stop for a car at the junction. Go to pull out. Nothing. Uh ? Try again. Is my clutch control that bad ? No, slipping on the packed snow. Saab 9000 FWD not going anywhere Backed down the rise to take a run at it and made it out by the skin of my teeth. That was the most dramatic part of the journey. Now I'm home I'm staying watching the snow and the birds feeding madly outside.

I have no reason to leave the house until Tuesday, and I'm quite glad. There are many advantages to having one's groceries delivered.
[EDIT]
I'm even gladder now. It's just started snowing again here.

Due to go Red Sparrow this evening, been snowing for a couple of hours now looking somewhat iffy for road travel.
That said at 2.30 this afternoon we have a dealer drive up from Kent to pick up some equipment.
I suspect that the main roads are fine, the B and side roads are pretty much untreated?

Maybe my faulty memory.... I'm sure we have had much worse weather than this a number of times. I went to work wherever it was
Is it really that bad this time ?

Hi Mike
I feel 1981/2 was far worse, we just do not have the info-structure to cope with even a mild cold snap, plus idiots buying up food like its a nuclear attack just bonkers, where has all the common sense gone?

Think there were a couple since 2009 when I was working in Shepperton. Remember one time when they salted the roads on the estate. 2 guys sitting on the back of a Transit sprinkling salt. Kept me smiling for a while.
Then there was the time I hit a pothole in the snow and had to change the wheel at about 6am

The winter of Christmas 1978 was the worst ever that I can remember. I had to climb out of the window of our downstairs neighbours in order to get out the house. The snow was several feet up the front door.

2009 I think was bad, got snowed in as I couldn't get out of our Close. BMW RWD didn't help, of course.

So much for me saying how useful getting one's groceries delivered is. Sainsbury's phoned me 08:45 this morning to say they can't deliver today. The next spot I could reserve is Monday morning, so the breadmaker has been pressed into service.

We've been shovelling snow outside, to clear the drive and gates. Most of it is 30-40cm deep, bloody hard work and my heart rate went through the roof. Break for coffee then finish off. Will have a go at escape later, see if we can make the village.
