Yes, he died recently. Funny chap, amazing achievement (Rolls Royce Meteor/Merlin tank engine), ugly looking thing.
As I remember, Rolls Royce took out an injunction requiring him to remove the Spirit of Ecstasy from the front grill.

Buying a Cat. S.
Curious about one. Was registered as such in 2006 and repaired. Since then passed MOTs ok apart from an odd one due to emissions. Had a few owners.
Wondering if there was anything I should be considering that I haven't?

Well, obviously check for structural damage which is why it was an insurance write-off. If the chassis is bent it won't drive like new and may never do so. That doesn't mean it won't pass an MOT as they may not spot chassis misalignment. However, it may not handle well which you could only tell by driving it.
Be very careful or you may end up with a lemon.

Thanks. Looking at it's history it's had extensive cat N damage and S damage. Not totally sure what the dates refer to. 6 previous owners sounded a bit suspect, but then thinking about it, a few years ago I went to look at a Daihatsu Copen I liked the colour of. It drove the same as mine; thought the suspension might be softer but it was just as hard. It wasn't as nippy as mine, but then I was using higher octane petrol which made quite a difference. Anyway, that had 8 previous owners. I'll see what the response is when I ask if I can have an RAC inspection.

MOT passed today with no observations. I really feel that the engine has never run sweeter and has a little more pickup and grunt than before. This is due to the 76C thermostat I had installed at the last service (stock is 88C), meaning the engine runs cooler, which in turn helps the intercooler keep the air/fuel charge cooler. Cooler charge has higher density which means more fuel into the cylinders.

The boss's Saab 9-5 Auto has a gearbox problem Will only run in 3rd with D selected. Reverse and L(ow) still work though Engine management and gearbox warning lights on May be serious, expensive and take a week or two to fix
Madam insists we need a 'runaround' which may have to be. Skoda hatch or estate could be favourite. Medium size

If you need a reliable runabout, you can't beat a Toyota. In fact, no-one can beat their overall reliability record.
I would not recommend German (Skoda is just VW in different clothes).

I got a 5 speed 2007 Mazda3 a few weeks back. As soon as I got it clutch and starter needed to be replaced. Had all fluids replaced. Fly wheel needed to be taken to a machine shop.
Driving standard has been a pain in the butt lol on day to day commuting for work...but fun as hell in the snowstorms...and at nights. This thing boots.
Still would prefer automatic transmission since I use it mostly for crawling to work and back but im starting to love this car more. It looks cool, has cool rims, beautiful interior, sounds great when idle and turbo engine sounds cool.

I like driving manual (stick) as it forces me into greater attention and a desire to drive it as smoothly as possible. I like having control over the car and I have driven enough autos, none of which have given me such fine control over what they're doing, which still have a mind of their own even with paddle shift.

Ye true Martin. Driving stick gives me control in situations where I want to build up rpms in 3rd gear then switch 2nd and I'm FLYING up a snow covered hill or merging onto the highway from off ramp at night.
Oh cool TAS mazda club?? Yes definitely I'll add pictures. I cant believe how illiterate I am at showing hyperlinks or direct photos. I type from smartphone and apps exclusively. I'll figure it out soon and post thanks Jules .

Great car meet today at Blackbushe Airport with the sun beaming down, lots of aircraft around (including a Hurricane taking off), and the cars looking good.
We had the usual ratio with another BRZ supplementing my usual lone appearance and another 8 or so GT86s. Guest cars included a GR Yaris in a stunning dark red metallic colour and a very tidy black Subaru WRX. There seemed to be an American club meeting going on somewhere close by as a lot of rumbly V8 muscle cars drove past, waving. So we waved back! Good coffee, good chat and I still got home in time for the F1.

I gave the BRZ a special clean today as it's on the verge of turning 100k miles (80k of them boosted). Pounding up and down the M3 doing 80 miles a day has been hard on it, but it never misses a beat and remains ever reliable. It's going to get a proper chip repair, paint correction and detailing later this year to get it back to showroom condition. It remains the best driver's car I've ever owned or driven.

Not bad for a late 2017 BRZ.

If you enjoy driving, there is always scope to learn to be a better driver. This chap is excellent in this video about Limit Points and others of his.

I checked tyre prices a few weeks ago and they were eye watering. Thankfully, they've come down again and ProTyre are offering a £40 off 4 tyres deal. I've stuck with the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6 that have been so very sure footed.
£544 fully fitted.
