Not a car for a normal customer. Too many people would not realise how many ways there are to die when they prod the right pedal.

I've read that Mazda might be cooking up an electric MX-5 - that's a car I would be very interested in acquiring...

It would likely be too heavy to have the delightful sporty characteristics it has now, or have a very limited range.

I thought about a GR86 but they were all ordered before I could even give it some consideration. On balance, I prefer my supercharged 2.0 FA20 engine to the naturally aspirated 2.4 FA25. I also prefer the Subaru badge! I've driven an older MX-5 and it's a brilliant chassis. I've toured in a Caterham and it's a lot of fun, but definitely not a daily driver. I've also toured in a BMW Z3 and it's like a grown-up MX-5, but closer in capability than you might think.
As for the Hyundai, a hot hatch is still that - a shopping car with a bigger engine. I mean, just look at it!
Cars like the GR86, MX-5 and outlier Caterham deserve to live on, ever more loved by their enthusiasts in a sea of boring family boxes. Get one while you can and while you're still young!

The Lexus LFA. My ultimate dream car, a tour de force of bespoke engineering. This dream will never come true, they are too rare and the used price is astronomical.
It's great to know that cars like this exist. A symphony of sound and performance.

Only a range extender but it's good news. The rotary shouldn't be left to die, it's too good a concept.
"Mazda has continued to tease us with an RX-7 replacement too"
Now that would be worth looking forward to.

I can't believe the difference a new battery has made to my Mazda today. Quite apart from getting the stop/start function back, overall performance feels back to its best, the engine feels smoother and more responsive. Would have changed it months ago had I known it was on the way out ...

Stop/Start cars need much larger batteries.
How much did it cost you?

150 quid. Didn't seem extortionate.

150 quid. Didn't seem extortionate. Big battery. I put a top brand Yuasa replacement in mine, cost me £60.

Very nice. How do you find maintenance costs?
I keep saying the only thing I'll upgrade to from the BRZ would be a Cayman S. I'm in no rush, though, I like the BRZ too much.

The Porsche dealer hates me because I never bring my car in - do my own oil/filter changes. I have had zero things go wrong with the TTS since I bought it 6 years ago. The most maintenance-free, quickest, and highest quality car I have ever owned!

Porsche do build nice cars yours looks great, and generally pretty reliable, although they did have issues with oil starvation on their engines from around 2003 to around 2011 I think, a design fault causing piston wear. Being a petrolhead I have owned a few in my life, I loved my ‘91 Carrera 4 which had rear racing suspension.

Oil starvation in flat-6 (Porsche) and flat-4 (Subaru) engines is something that can be avoided by good maintenance and top quality oil (only Millers Nanotech goes in mine).

Oil starvation in flat-6 (Porsche) and flat-4 (Subaru) engines is something that can be avoided by good maintenance and top quality oil (only Millers Nanotech goes in mine). It was a specific engine build of the Porsche flat-6, and could not be cured as I understand it, I believe Porsche avoided admitting any liability, they just rebuilt engines if they failed and were still in warranty. One Porsche specialist dealer told me that if they got a 911 in as a trade in with that engine build type they devalued it by £8K, as they would rebuild the engine before selling. The issue is made worse on cars that are driven a lot in heavy traffic with the engine idling or at low revs, so city 991's, eventually the pistons go slightly Oval and it's a rebuild. I pulled out of buying a 2010 911 with only 32K miles on it about 8 years ago because of the issue.

Got it. Can happen to the Subi flat fours but generally only when boosted and on track in extreme turns where the oil pickup starves momentarily. It's remedied by installing a baffle in the sump, but not needed in road cars like mine.
Even so, I only use Millers Nanotech oil with Archoil AR9200 v2 friction modifier at every service. It spins incredibly smoothly as a result and protects the bearings.

When I hill climbed a MR2 I used Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5W-40 Ester Fully Synthetic Engine Oil, which is similar, it protected the engine and improved performance slightly. I also used it in a Morgan V8 road car as it helped keep the engine temperature down buy as much as 10C, Morgan V8's are notorious for running hot.
