The job's done and I had a wonderful drive home as if in a different car. It is astonishingly quiet, so much so that I can hear the mechanical sounds of the engine spinning rather than just exhaust roar. The combination of low noise and swift acceleration gives the impression that the car is even faster. Perhaps it is, knowing that there is no exhaust restriction at all. Ian at H&S explained to me that both the centre silencer and the two back boxes are stuffed but feature a straight-through design, so there is probably less impediment to gas flow. The two Helmholz resonators are empty, as they should be.
External noise at idle is the same as stock but you get a nice subdued tone at revs.

Absolutely, totally making my point for me. Still, it makes interesting cars all the rarer and even more of a pleasure to own. Design is dead!

This Toyota concept SUV (hardly, but never mind that) has some style. Let's hope it comes to fruition without the customer feedback groups reducing it to utter blandness.

I saw a vintage orange Saab today - think it was a 96 from the 60's or 70's.
I just stared at it as it went past, such a beautiful thing and so rare to see a car of this beauty on the roads nowadays.

Amusing to experience the added power available because of the cold air temperature - just when you don't need it!
I noted that running at +15C today (ambient air temp -2C, intake air temperature 13C), the supercharger is loving it and launched me forwards when I had barely prodded the throttle.

Cold air is denser air thus more O2 entering the combustion chamber per metered unit of volume.
Nothing beats colder temps at or near sea level to tease the optimal performance for internal combustion motors.

Cold air is denser air thus more O2 entering the combustion chamber per metered unit of volume. Thus intercoolers to reduce the intake air temperatures of boosted cars, as the boosting, be it turbo or supercharger, heats up the air through compression. My previous car, a Honda CRZ, had a Sprintex supercharger installed without intercooler, due to lack of space. Its performance wildly depended on air temperature and suffered during the summer months. I'm trying one more trick: at my next service in January, I'm having a 76C thermostat installed to replace the standard 88C one. Cosworth did a lot of research for their supercharger for the BRZ (the Eaton core is the same as mine) and determined that it helped performance by reducing temperatures in the air intake system.

Be sure to consider the impact on the car's passenger compartment heater when going to a cooler thermostat. You could be in for some chilly commutes this winter!

One Tesla owner I know is going for an electric Kia next Unreliable, bad assembly, paint dodgy, waited ages for a software update, if I remember that right

Be sure to consider the impact on the car's passenger compartment heater when going to a cooler thermostat. Thanks Nick, I had the same thought. Two days in a row I watched the water temp rise on my ScanGauge and when it reaches 76C there's plenty of heat pumping out. It rarely gets colder than about -10C in these parts, so I should be ok. Good thought, though

Just a reminder if you haven't done it already - check your tyre pressure as it will have dropped significantly in the cold weather. Avoid messing about at a garage and get one of these excellent inflators to do the job at home or anywhere else ... amzn.eu/d/aYMPy9S

I have a good digital air pump that I keep in the car. However, keeping the tyres at 2.3 bar, my TPMS light has started to come on in the cold early mornings. It goes out shortly after getting on the motorway as the air has warmed up enough through friction.

One Tesla owner I know is going for an electric Kia next Unreliable, bad assembly, paint dodgy, waited ages for a software update, if I remember that righ Some early M3's had panel fit issues but from what I read these were quickly remedied at no cost to owners, and has not been an issue for over 3 years. I have heard of paint issues mainly on the bumpers due to slight colour mismatch, a few are reported on the Tesla owners Facebook site, I believe all were fixed quickly with bumper swaps. As for software updates they come along at regular intervals, about 1 a month to add or improve functions. You can check the update history on the Tesla site. I originally had a Kia EV6 on order and gave up, when Kia had over 1 million back orders, and were struggling with supplying their EV range. Considering that a lot of EV6s were order in the last year I have actually so far seen only 3 on the road, whether they were privately owned who knows. My Tesla M3 has been and is great, it is 2021 car, and does what it says on the tin. There quite a lot of Tesla bashing out there, as quite a few people just fo not like Elon Musk for all sorts of reasons, putting that aside Tesla is way ahead of the game compared to old core vehicle manufacturers (EU & US), Chinese ones like Xpeng. Li and BYD are keeping up but have not broken into the West yet (I am sure they soon will). I think Tesla has sold over 3 million cars worldwide to date, and is the richest and most successful car maker in history, so they must be doing something right. Some interesting stats for you. From Wiki "Tesla's global sales were 936,222 cars in 2021, an 87% increase over the previous year,[10] and cumulative sales totaled 3 million cars as of August 2022.[11] In October 2021, Tesla's market capitalization reached $1 trillion, the sixth company to do so in U.S. history."www.statista.com/statistics/960121/sales-of-all-electric-vehicles-worldwide-by-model/insideevs.com/news/564800/world-top-oem-sales-2021/

His list of problems was longer than I typed as I couldn't remember them all
He wasn't at all impressed with the Tesla when I saw him last year. He's even firmer this year Next year I can regale you with Kia stories
