Our rental car in France, a Fiat 500 Hybrid with - wait for it - a 1.0l 70hp engine. With the battery charged, it's just manageable but needed 2nd gear up some of the Alpine switchback roads today. Fantastic economy, we're on the same tankful we started with in Lyons and still showing 1/2 tank left.

There's a huge difference between the interiors of the Porsche 996 and 991 Turbo S, also!

Porsche Tiptronic (you can shift with paddles or shifter, but no clutch)

Question for Porsche lovers - I want to do a track day and some laps in a Porsche, but which model should I look for to get max entertainment??

Porsche Autobahn Ft Worth invited me out for a track day at Cresson Speedway a few years ago. We raced Carrera S models, and they were a total blast!

I've never driven a Porsche but would love to try a Caiman S. I've driven several cars at tracks, probably the most exciting was a tuned Honda Civic although an old school Audi Quattro was a blast. The most disappointing was a Ferrari 360.

While we were in France there was an absolutely stunning blue Alpine parked in the hotel car park. Up close, it was far more appealing than in photos I've seen. I now have another target car other than a Caiman S if I ever feel like upgrading from the BRZ.

That looks "sick". But are you sure you weren't in Japan, Martin?

Surprising I see lots of 'shooting brake'* style around now. Seems popular * cross between hatch and estate

SUVs are, as you say, all homogenised into oversized, inefficient boxes with all the styling flair of a 1960s shopping mall. So many of them driven single occupied, too.
Easier, then, for spotting a proper car among the eyesores.

I washed my car today, ready for show day tomorrow at Caffeine & Machine in Stratford. It rained (again) before I had the chance to polish it. Then I had to get fuel. Our lane has undone all the good work and filthified it. Sometimes you wish you hadn't bothered.

The meeting at Caffeine and Machine was excellent and the rain mostly held off. We're British, anyway, so we just complained a little about the showers and carried on, ignoring it. I have never seen so many GT86s and BRZs, including some new model GR86s, in one place before. It seemed like half the total numbers in the UK were there, with everything from stock cars to supercharged, turbo'd and nice looking to over-the-top body kits and outrageous rear wings. The people, as always, are thoroughly nice and meeting new members was fun. The coffee - not so good. They need to work on it.
