If you buy a bottle, let me know what it's like, Martin. I'll drink it vicariously.

There may be lots of mmmmmms and aaaaaaahs.

Berry Bros Speyside - a blended from their Classic Range. I had previously really enjoyed their Sherry Cask edition, so thought this worth a try, especially at the asking price of just 28 quid delivered by Amazon. Bottled at just over 44% it should deliver something substantial. Indeed, it released very strong spirit aromas on the nose with complex notes of pear, grain, toffee and biscuit. Intriguing! On the palate, initially it's frankly rather disappointing. It tastes distinctly sour and unwelcoming. After 10 minutes it was much more approachable and by 15 you have something worth drinking that has softened significantly, with a caramelized and honeyed tropical sweetness about it. There's still a touch of austerity though in its potency, which makes this a scotch to be respected, rather than adulated.

I got a lovely surprise gift today - a quartet of Mackmyra Swedish whiskies, all with different flavour profiles. I may well have to make a start tonight!

This stuff is avaialable again, and is currently £24.00 per bottle. Not a bad price for an "experiment" I'd say. Same link as above.

I fancy both the above, but my rate of consuming whisky is such that my cabinet will last me years as it is.

Stop showing me bottles of whiskey. I just want to get blasted and feel that warm glow. Being pissed on whiskey and I just wanna hug everybody. Lager and I want a fight.

The worst hangover of my life was from whisky as a teenager. I had to go out the next day and was nearly crawling down the street it was so bad!

I've been sampling two whiskys this evening.
Glenfiddich 18 - hmm, disappointing, not much going on there. Where's the depth and complexity for an 18??
Glendronach 12 - I like it more than the last time I had it but it's a bit of a one trick pony too. Pleasant enough, but I certainly wouldn't want to plough through a bottle of the stuff. I'd find it relentlessly sweet after a while.

Glenfiddich 18 - hmm, disappointing, not much going on there. Where's the depth and complexity for an 18?? I was given a Glenfiddich 18 year old and, like you, found it lacking in any depth. Where other whiskies have layers of tastes and aftertastes, Glenfiddich is more that of vodka with a single overpowering sensation.

I recently opened a special bottle of whisky that I bought on a fabulous trip to Dumfries and Galloway last year. We were looking for a tea room whilst out driving one afternoon and by chance ended up having a wonderful tea at Buittle Castle where we were served by the 32nd Baron & Laird of Buittle himself, James de Balliol-Cavendish, who was a most congenial host indeed.I couldn’t help noticing he had a bottle of whisky on the shelf and having asked him about it he proceeded to pour me a fairly significant measure. You know the rest, we ended up walking out with two bottles of the stuff. It’s a single cask Macduff 11yr old at 46%, that has been specially bottled for him as ‘Buittle Castle 850th Anniversary Single Malt’. The whisky shows a little sea salt on the nose and after ten minutes or so the flavour really opens up, with rich butterscotch toffee notes mixed with a little tropical fruit and gentle spice; the merest whiff of peat and smoke. Nothing is overblown, in fact there is a certain delicacy on the palette which gives way to a lingering creamy finish. A really harmonious and pleasurable whisky.

Picked up a bottle of the rather decent Glenfiddich 15 from Amazon for just £35, down from £51.

I've sampled the Woodford Rye in the past, and remember it quite fondly. If I were still drinking, a bottle of Tanqueray 10 would be in the post too.
