Let me know how you get on with the Hazelburn please Clive - it has been on my watchlist for a while. Hi Jules, I’ve finally cracked open the Hazelburn 10 at 46%. Not surprisingly it shares much with Springbank..the 12 cask strength which has greater complexity and depth but both are very traditionally flavoured malts. I certainly prefer the Springbank but it’s much more expensive. The Hazelburn is a great everyday dram.

I should add to my Hazelburn comment whist listening to Natalie Merchant / Tigerlilly...it’s great but very Tracy Chapman-like which isn’t a bad thing. The dram is very good really. More money brings greater complexity but for someone like myself who loves this classic flavour it’s great. Yes Springbank 12 cask strength is better but it’s also three times the price. I like sherried and peaty whiskies but if I had to settle on a single character it would be Hazelburn / Springbank / Campbeltown. I’ll be looking out for well priced Hazelburn when it’s easily available again.

I'm still very much enjoying Glengoyne 12 - best value malt I have ever bought I think at the silly price on Amazon.

Thanks Clive, it's over priced at £55 but that's OK as I try not to buy whisky on Amazon. Last bottle I bought was £39.99 I guess I'll have to wait until Springbank opens up again... worth the wait though and I do have a reasonable stock of their other bottling's Hazelburn now £46 delivered on evil Amazon ... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00XPF2MXA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_dcclFbPH80PYJ

I just had a look at the Springbank website for news. Nothing recent, but in May they hoped to be bottling some of the special editions by August, so hopefully they might have some wider availability soon. I am running low on Springbank bottlings, would hate to run completely dry as it's probably my favourite distillery together with Glengyle (Kilkerran) - love the history and the passion that went into bringing Glengyle back as a distillery. I think Kilkerran is astonishingly good value for the 12 year old. EDIT:Just found a bottle of the 12 year old - I'm opening it now I think it's a gem of a whisky - 46%, no colour and no chill filtration.

I'll try that Tim, it's a new one on me and don't remember trying a Campbeltown whisky but my memory probably fails me ...

Nice, I have a bottle of that tucked away Clive, along with an unopened 10. Jules, if you're not that familiar with Campbeltown whiskies, maybe try a sampler or two first if you can? I'd happily recommend diving in blind on the Hazelburn as it's very inoffensive (and moorish), whereas many others have a very distinctive flavour profile which some don't warm too. It's refereed to as the 'Campbeltown funk' which is actually a good description - I think it's the worm tubs. I really love it, Campbeltown and Islay are my favoured regions, but as you're a bit of a sherry monster, you possibly might not? So I'm not giving you a money back guarantee, but if you don't like it you can send it over

Hi Tim, I also have a 10 (cask strength) on the shelf! A good investment....🥃

Aye, I bought one bottle of everything Springbank I could in March - definitely a good investment. I was tempted to buy more, but didn't want to be greedy so just got one of each that were available. Might have been a mistake!

Surely no mishtake...hic! The funny thing with age...I noticed the same with my father...really strongly flavoured whisky became less attractive...couple that with modern mega peat and sherry...this why I like the more classic Springbank style now.

. . . this why I like the more classic Springbank style now. I agree, I'm the same. I do enjoy trying different whiskies some are just fads like anything, here today, gone tomorrow - but if I had to choose just one distillery from hereon in it would be Springbank. It's classic scotch whisky, still made in the traditional way. Honest, consistently reliable, fairly priced and with no bollocks bling or marketing waffle.

I’ve very much enjoyed Islay brands over the years and more recently some Sherry bomb types. The levels of peat with some Islay offerings has become extreme. Springbank is just so classic and authentic, I’ll still enjoy peat and sherry types but I’ll always come back to Springbank.

I'm the same, no need for obscure peatiness any more. I keep going back to Ben Nevis 12 year old as my go-to whisky, if I even have such a thing. It's gorgeous and does me fine.

That's the great thing about Scotch, there's one out there for everyone - assuming you like it in the first place
