June (3) 2017 - Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie - Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie (2017)As we had a slight hiccup with the rota at the beginning of the month, we thought that it might be good to have a bonus album choice for the end of the month. We’ve chosen a brand new album, so there’s a good chance that almost none of us will have heard it yet. It's a Fleetwood Mac record in disguise! Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie is Fleetwood Mac minus one key member. This has plenty of precedent - Behind the Mask was made without Lindsey Buckingham, Time was made without Buckingham or Stevie Nicks and Say You Will was made without Christine McVie. Buckingham and McVie went into the studio to record a few tracks, Fleetwood and Mac dropped by to add some bass and drums and it looked like it might become a band release until Stevie Nicks absented herself by going off on tour to promote her own album. Being a huge original Fleetwood Mac fan (Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan) and not being keen on the FM 2.0 I still approach this with an open mind.
The first few bars put paid to that. Not quite nails across a blackboard but not great listening. MOR for the baby boomers.
I also liked Christine in Chicken Shack all those years ago. This is watered down Christine at best.
Try "Then play on" by Fleetwood Mac and hear what was - not on Spotify it seems

I put up with it until halfway through track 4, Red Sun, and I turned it off. That's time I'll not get back.

Will give this a go when I'm working on Monday.
Heard mixed views, so quite interested to hear for myself.

This is a really nice album and the best Mac album since Tango In The Night. Actually I find the early FM blues stuff pretty boring generic, but the PG written singles were great. The mid period 'Kirwan' featured albums are very good up to Bare Trees but I do prefer the first few Buck/Nicks albums. It's a mixed bag after this with some good moments. Everything with Lindsay on it from 80's on-wards is very much dominated by his solo sound. However LB solo albums are worth checking out and generally superior to later Mac offerings. I think some people hang on to the Peter Green nostalgia too much and all periods of the band have something different to offer. BTW this is really a LB solo effort with Christine hanging along plus Mac rhythm section guesting.

I have the Buckingham/Nicks album (the s/t album) on vinyl and think very highly of it.
I'm playing this now, haven't got to the end of it but I'm really not sure. The single In My World really isn't doing it for me. However, I got to the end of the album and Carnival Begin is much, much more like it. I shall need to listen to it again before voting.

I shall need to listen to it again before voting. Is there a vote? Nothing appearing here. If there's a vote please have a negative scale ...

Thanks for pointing that out, Chris. Vote added (but you'll have to settle for 1/10)!

It's that Chris's fault!

I'd rather it said "It's shite", rather than 1/10 - 1/10 doesn't indicate how much of a waste of life listening to those 3 and a bit tracks I endured.

Well I'm giving it 9/10 just to make up for the ridiculous 1 rating. If you don't like LB or FM likely you won't like it but it certainly should rate much higher.

It's a good job that you stopped where you did Chris, because one of the reviews that I read said that the first three tracks were the best. If you had got much further, we might have had a suicide on our hands.

I very much like the eponymous album. And Rumours. Didn't really like Tusk. Tango was OK. This latest thing doesn't get close ...... It's shite! 1/10 is rating it too highly!

I am with Chris and Mike on this. It does nothing for me at all. Its a shame as both are talented musicians but this just never gets going

This is what i mean by being ridiculous and non objective. If I don't like an album and it has at least competent musical performance and sound I give it a 4 or 5. Reserve 1 for Brittany Spears' worst efforts!

I agree that some people have odd scaling tendencies.
For me, 1/10 has NO REDEEMING QUALITIES WHATSOEVER. 10/10 is UTTER PERFECTION and very, very rare.
