The boss gifted me her old mobile, twice. Carried with me as instructed for months. Never used it as I was at home or at work with only the bike ride between.
One day I wanted to speak to her from work. Rang, and rang, and rang. All day long. No reply. Not a lot of point in that then for the "emergency use" so many go on about so gave up. No one ever rang me on it. They know I was at work or at home ! Then the £10 PAYG ran out as I hadn't used the damned thing.
Don't seem to need the instant access a mobile gives

The LG Q6 arrived yesterday. It's a nice phone, not too expensive (around £200) and has a large and good quality 5.5" screen in a relatively small overall package. Performance is fast and it comes with Android Nougat 7.1.1. Battery life seems well able to cope with a day's use. The camera is very good, at least for daylight shots.
As for setting it up, it's taken a while to get used to the way Android wants to do things, but my first impressions are that it's way better than iOS and the interaction between apps makes things less difficult. I've got most of the big stuff installed and working now (Outlook, Office 365, OneDrive, banking, Tapatalk, Spotify, WhatsApp, Feedly). I've not done much to customise it short of moving icons around.
I do miss some aspects of Windows Phone but needs must and I'm starting to get used to Android.

Getting even more impressed with the Q6. The performance is fast, it amuses me when the reviews complain about it having only midrange performance. The 8 CPU cores make it feel swift and responsive at all times. Secondly, the degree of integration between Android apps makes it feel nice and homogeneous, the thing I liked most about Windows Phone 7. Thank goodness it has a central file system, too!
Now I just need it to understand that my default document and photo store is on OneDrive and configuration is pretty much complete.

I found the Swype (or the Android equivalent) keyboard - brilliant!

Absolutely love my Moto X Force, 21mp camera, 3GB RAM, 64GB ROM storage plus I have a 128GB microSD card in there. Shatter-proof display and I can get 2 days out of the battery. When it dies Moto will be my first choice when I start looking to replace it. I used to be a Nokia guy, but right now I like Moto.
The best bit for me is the fact it uses plain vanilla Andriod, zero bloatware - running 7.0 at the moment. Dropped it a few times and not one problem with the screen so far. The video quality is excellent, even in low light.
My mate is on his second Moto, has a Moto E and also swears by it.

I agree about native Android, mine runs 7.1.1 and I'm using the standard interface, not the LG launcher. Saying that, some of their wallpapers are nice.
Got it in a J&D protective frame, very slim but gives good core protection.
Still can't quite get Contacts to synchronise properly from Outlook - some do and some don't. I gave up and just recreated the missing ones.

I had to ask eventually what kind of phone is it. I did some research on it. Apparently it's a modular style phone , using some copper pins onback that allow you to accessorize the phone with cases that act as add on devices themselves such as a case that sticks to the phone acting as an extra speaker. Another case acts as another camera with better capabilities. There are other ones as well. Sounds like Moto has some winners. My boss swears by that phone, he says the glass is nearly impossible to break.

I'm fighting with the rather shit Subaru Starlink system in my car, which is supposed to allow compatible apps to display on the car's display. I'm looking for satnav and only two are recommended: Magellan and TomTom. Neither fill me with joy but I cannot get Waze to work at the moment. Will investigate TomTom which has never impressed in the past.
No problem with Bluetooth, though, and good old Radio Paradise works very well with the current track details displaying, too.

Martin, I briefly tried Waze but couldn't get it to recognise full post codes, just the 1st 4 characters - this is a way of saving on the mapping licence. Did I miss something re to post codes?

To be honest, Clive, I've yet to try Waze in anger. I will do on Friday as I'll be driving up to Warrington.
I really miss Bing Maps on my Windows Phone, it was pinpoint accurate and allowed downloading of full maps to prevent any use of data.

Is this a battle I can win ?
Can an Android phone can take the place of an Apple iPhone - when used amongst friends and family all with iPhones ? I assume the total Android package is much less dough than the total Apple package.
The boss wants a faster iPhone, better camera, maybe other. Photos held on the Apple thing. Transparent comm's between her iPhone and iPad
I mentioned Android to be told it would be no good as all the family have iPhones and maybe some other wonderful Apple advantages that just cannot be made to work.

It makes no difference to you what platform others use, Mike. They have similar features but the Apple tends to be overpriced.
All the main apps are supported on both platforms so unless there is something unusual that you must have, then you'll be covered fine.

Thanks
Can Android communicate with Apple as easily as Apple to Apple ?

What, with e-mail, text messages, Facebook messaging, Skype, WhatsApp and many others? Of course!

I’m not sure you’ll be able to sync to iCloud and your other devices as seamlessly.

My mother started a plan with her first high end smartphone, last year.
She had her heart set on an iPhone but was told by her new provider that she wouldn't be able to transfer files and some other elements from her old android device to the iPhone, she would literally have to do without some things.
Unless maybe now there apps that can make a migration of all elements and files from iPhone to android possible, and vice versa.

If iCloud is shit, don't use it. There are plenty of other cloud services (like OneDrive) that work across platforms.

I've recently been suffering slow downs on my Lenovo Moto G5. Researching pointed towards Google / Launcher3. I would start Google search and everything would slooooow doooown. I mean really unusably slow. A switch off / on would fix it. But it would be back a day or two later. Same thing trying to use ok Google. I tried this off one of the Android forums. It totally worked. Not probs for a week now. It did remove all my icon from start screens but a minutes quick finger work and they were all back. Tip, take screenshots by simultaneously pressing the power and volume down keys and you'll have a record of your screens to help recreate everything. I use that screenshot feature a lot.. Any pic you see on screen can be copied, quickly cropped in resize app and the quality is good too. I'm also trying the Firefox browser now which I use a lot on the laptop. The mobile version is good too.

I find iCloud to be fine for what I use it for, but then again, I am an Apple fan
