One recent thing (3 months or so), is using phone instead of TV remote. The original remote became unresponsive on some most used buttons, and even the usual hacks wouldn't bring it back. Phone app is so much better! Always with us, Marie has it as well. It's an official Panasonic app too. Please tell me more Which one do you use Steve ?

Android / Google playstore Works over wi-fi so no IR on phone required. Syncs up pretty instantaneously, generally rock solid. You have up swipe left and right to get all the functionality via different themed screens. BIG buttons for the hamfisted😂 Can wake up from standby / put into standby, open apps, menu settings, select inputs, fast forward / rewind etcetc

In my case it's all phone. I have a new laptop purchased solely for 3d Modeling software for work.
I feel a bit cool to have have converted my entire online life into the palm of my hand and its a dependable device with a large 6.2" screen. The screen is big enough for the device to be what some people call "a phablet" (phone/tablet). All communication including email and all leisure watching is done on the go with the phone.
2 nights ago I was out jogging at a business park watching the best hockey game I've ever seen and it kind of blew my mind that I could watch it from the phone while running around. The only way this could better is if anytime I was near a large screen I could beam the signal from my phone to the larger screen which technically I can by using a cool integrated feature called Samsung DEX, but at this time I still have to plug an HDMI cable in and then the phone becomes a mouse pad for your finger and you access the phone like a PC on the large screen.

The Note 10 is all set up, running on Android 13/MIUI 14.0.1, and I'm now a " developer" which gives me access to a few more bits and bobs under the hood. My Nova launcher made most of the setting up a doddle. I saved the settings from my old phone to Google Drive, and then loaded them up on the new phone. Same for my custom wallpaper, so it looks, and acts, exactly like my old phone, but faster. As a little bonus, it came with a gel bumper case already fitted. I've also swapped over the Qi wireless charging adapter from the old phone, so it now charges wirelessly, and the adapter itself is protected by the gel bumper. It might not be the most up-to-date phone available (it was originally released 2 years ago) but it exceeds my actual needs by quite some margin, so it's pretty much future proof as far as I'm concerned. Mine's the blue one.

Interesting to compare these sub versions. My Oppo phone runs ColorOS 13 over Android 13 while my Samsung tablet runs One UI 5.1 over Android 13.
In this regard, Android is a bit like Windows, running on a vast multitude of different hardware and featuring the customisation of vendors giving slightly different user experiences.
I do like Android, though.

Still have my samsung galaxy note 9, have had it for a very long time but i wont change it until it breaks or the os it has becomes completely obsolete. Think its on android 10 Its been very very good Its still recieving security updates so until samsung stop supporting it ill keep using it Phones are much of a muchness now imo, the tech has plateaued for now. Not really sure where they can go thats objectively better than what they could do 3 or 4 years ago

I ended up with a Mi Redmi note 11 Pro 5g while semi-stuck in China... I've had it about 15 months and at the time it was about £200... hard to see the need to wander outside this price point... I am pleased to see Slinger recommend something from the same stable, I cannot directly recommend mine since the exact model I have is Chinese specific. Going into the Mi stores in Asia is interesting, they are all white and look like an Apple store... the phones are laid out on big tables... the first models kick in at about £80, move one step to the right and the next phone is about +£10 more for a bit extra....repeat this process and before you know where you are, you are standing in front of the latest and greatest for about £1200 or whatever... and to paraphrase the talking heads: "Well, how did I get here?"... the tricky bit is knowing just how many steps to the right from the starter price phone to take.

I've had a few phones, Apple, TCL, LG, Samsung. and so on, the usual suspects, but this is the first time I've actually stuck with a brand because I like what their products do for what I consider a decent price. It helps that for 90% of it's use it will simply act as a phone, plus the lump of tech neccessary for two factor authentication, and nothing much else.

I dont tend to be brand loyal, but stuck with one phone brand for years. sony phones, going right back to the sony ericsson days. i had a nokia 7650 way back when, then went back to sony until i got this samsung. I got it because i broke my last one, an xperia z3, and had it repaired twice. 2 screens were put in by a local repair shop that didnt work. The repair shop did me a really good deal on the note as an apology for the 2 failed repairs. When this on finally dies ill probably get a sony again even though ive been very happy with the samsung, but im completely out of the loop on phones these days.

I've moved everything away from BT now except for my own phone, the contract for which expires in June. Will switch over to EE to retain the same excellent 5G coverage, but hopefully at a lower cost.

I've moved everything away from BT now except for my own phone, the contract for which expires in June. Will switch over to EE to retain the same excellent 5G coverage, but hopefully at a lower cost. Well, that was painless - so far. I made an experimental call to BT as I got the 'your contract is running out' message, asking for a PAC (number transfer) code. The nice lady asked where I was going and I said EE. "Oh, I work for EE and am just helping out BT with moving contracts", she said. So that started a very friendly chat where she said she could get me a deal not otherwise available, further discounted because I'm an (ex) BT broadband customer. Boy did she get me a deal: 25GB doubled to 50GB for the length of the 24 month contract, at £10 discounted to £9 per month! She made the transfer over to my existing EE contract for the music room router, keeping the same Direct Debit, and has despatched the 5G SIM to me, using the PAC to retain my number. Provided that arrives and works, it could be the most painless transfer ever, and save me some money, too.

...I've just checked the post and the EE SIM is here. Popped it in the phone and just have to wait for the number to switch over.

Contrast that to my recent experience with Three and contrast that with *your* recent experience with Three

Been toying with the idea of a new to me phone Oppo Find X3 Lite 128GB (Unlocked) Starry Black *Light Screen Burn*
came up at a nice price on Ebay and is on it's way
What pushed me over the edge was the screen resolution. So much better than my LG Think I'll use it more

What you'll notice with the Oppo is power (it's fast for a midprice phone), battery life (2 days), screen size and quality. Also 5G reception with the right service.

The screen size and quality likely to be the key

"Screen burn," no matter how *light* would set my alarm bells ringing.
