Thanks No idea if the phone backs up to Google. I'm a low level user and non user of lots of phone apps What do I need it for ? Think my LG already uses a nano SIM When you get a new phone the back up makes setup / transferring to the new one so easy. Unthinkable to start from scratch these days. Think I set up Backup on the phone. No confirmation though My PC thinks I have at least one App not seen on the phone, that cursed Android Backup App that should be long gone is one And the screen I had on the PC showing these Apps I can't find. Too boring for words Maybe another day

It'll transfer your photos, videos, text messages etc.
As Steve says, it's unthinkable to start from scratch if you've been using the previous phone for a long time.

I've decided to step into the modern world. i.e. My phone is a 3G model so I thought 5G would be a decent, and neccessary, investment. To be honest, I'm perfectly happy with my current Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro, but it's maxed out on Android 11, and then there's the 3G thing.
What I've done is sort of bought a sidegrade as much as an upgrade. Because I'm perfectly happy with the brand I've bought another Xiaomii, a Redmi Note 10 5G this time. It has Android 11 as standard and (the clue's in the name) 5G. The screen size is actually 0.03" smaller at 6.5" but the display is superior. It's actually got the same CPU as the Note 8 Pro but with a more advanced chipset for better performance. The battery is also a slight improvement, up from a Li-Po 4500 mAh to a 5000 mAh lump. Bluetooth goes from 5.0 to 5.1. RAM stays the same, at 6GB but basic storage goes up from 64GB to 128GB
I use my phone for calling the odd cab when I'm out and as a necessary tool for two-factor authentication, and very little else. I don't need whistles and bells, but I figured I do need, or would need, to step up from 3G, and it seemed daft to buy a phone with an intermediate 4G spec. If it wasn't for that "3G" reason alone, I'd have happily carried on using the Note 8 Pro until it wore out though.

I wouldn't be with out it, till they pry my phone out of my death clutch😂 Why would I want Tapatalk when I've got a PC with a 27" monitor? The only times I'm out of the house is when there's a purpose to it, so I wouldn't be online anyway. If there's time to kill then my eReader fills the gaps much more pleasantly than squinting at a 6.5" screen. Yes, I'm old fashioned. I've got a phone to make phone calls, cameras to take pictures with, etc. And don't think I wasn't tempted...

It's so much quicker with swype keyboard on phone to write a quick reply. I can screenshot something and load it to the forum in a few seconds. Tapatalk hosts all pics, gifs etc. It's for life (yeah okay that's untested🙂).
I can write and post from the comfort of my lounge recliner, music room, kitchen, orangery, car when parked waiting etc. Virtually everything I purchase, research to purchsse etc is on phone too.
I use my phone for 90% of my small business communications. Only use laptop to create / maintain spreadsheets.
I use laptop for hifi measuring and DSP control too of course. Plus watching geo-blocked Swedish TV on big TV.
I do get you though. It's also a generational thing. I was the SW generation that helped create the mobile system.
I've got the handheld disease - Slightly less bad than Industrial disease😂

It's so much quicker with swype keyboard on phone to write a quick reply. I'll second that. Whenever I stop for a coffee I can scan TAS and reply to posts very easily with TapaTalk. It's very handy that they host images, too.

I'll wager the text on my phone is as large to read as on a larger screen laptop. The way most websites / apps are made to optimise layout and readability / ease of use, is great.
Likewise onedriver / google drive and password vault. Everything is there (apart from excel / ppt and for me usb measuring output and older control apps).
I'm writing this during the end change of a tennis match. Laptops are sitting in the music loft & office. Not going to get up and walk there, wait to boot up, even sleep awaken of windows / chromebook, just not convenient🙂

I wouldn't want to create an Office document on my phone, but I use it a lot to tweak Word, Excel and even Powerpoint docs!

The difference I'm seeing is that Mike and I are both retired and can fit our online activities etc. into a much more relaxed schedule than the guys grabbing time here and there inside a travel/work/travel lifestyle, and who have to cram a lot of what Mike and I spread over 7 days, into a weekend.
I'm typing this on my Chromebook, with the second-to-last episode of "Preacher" on the telly. It's 14:50. You guys are at work, and won't even be able to read this until you take a break, let alone address my point and reply to it, should you wish to.
Horses for courses, guys. Why would I restrict myself to a phone screen when I have a choice of a 27" PC monitor or a 17" Chromebook? That's without my W10 and W11 laptops, several 10.1" Android and Fire tablets, and my (7.9") Ipad Mini. My last choice, in fact, is a 6.5" phone screen. Simples.

BL - Before Laptop I would often be upstairs in my office. Desktop PC, Twin 24" screens, IBM clicky keyboard, wireless mouse, sound connected to a Chord Integrated and Isobariks
Competing with fast laptop, touch screen and sitting in front of the system wins though
Magic wand If I could have my desk and the full kit facing the system that would be wonderful

Bet I could search for a piece of Hifi, screenshot it or take a picture of something, crop it and post on TAS with a short comment quicker then any laptop, PC etc. Don't care how big the screen is, from anywhere with a connection too 😂
I'm never really at work btw. Semi retired / hobby small business work only since 2013. The phone is invaluable in the workshop as a reference for sizes and specs while doing that, a torch, a phone, a watch, stopwatch, a progress picture taker / sharer, Instagram etc. It's not a digital vernier calliper, or digital scales though😂 Also check and do banking, stocks and shares management, recipe reference when baking etc. Book tennis courts, invite guests via Google calendar, on and on. Sat nav in car, sat nav on bike. Select music on Sonos when Alexa is being dumb🙂 Control Bubble UPnP for hifi listening.
I do move about a bit with it🙂
It's totally integrated into my way of life.
Marie's the same, biggish Instagrammer 12K followers, her flower growing / gardening. Lots of photos / videos. All done on phone.

I choose to spend as much time as I can in front of the system and the laptop is there. The phone has expanded into other areas for me but I still find it way too small.
Will be using the tablet more soon. Maybe that will guide me into more phone use

One recent thing (3 months or so), is using phone instead of TV remote. The original remote became unresponsive on some most used buttons, and even the usual hacks wouldn't bring it back.
Phone app is so much better! Always with us, Marie has it as well.
It's an official Panasonic app too.

The new phone has arrived. Guess who can't lay hands on a bloody sim card tool anywhere? I've actually had to order one from Amazon, to arrive tomorrow. On Monday I will find at least one of the four or five I must have knocking about the place.

Yup, just found them. They weren't where they were supposed to be either. I'm convinced there's a ghost in this place that delights in moving things. Hmmm ...today is my wedding anniversary. I think I know who the culprit is.
