You don't need that kind of app. Your phone is perfectly capable of updating itself regularly. July 2021 doesn't sound up to date. What version of Android is it? You should be getting monthly updates if it's still in support.
You could try installing that nasty app and then using the Play Store to uninstall it, hopefully removing every trace of it.

PrimeNap said there was an update. Had no idea that rubbish was being foisted on me.
Android is 8.1.0 Maybe that's my limit on my phone K10, 2017
Will try installing and uninstalling
I thought this stuff was close to bullet proof - if approved. I didn't go off piste Sounds like cowboy country

Yes, Android versions before 10 are out of support, so not likely to be kept up to date.
There is much better protection with later versions of Android although, to be fair, the Google Play Store does try to vet apps for misbehaviour. With Android 12 you have to give apps permission to access any part of the device and permissions even expire if not used. It is pretty bullet-proof unless you 'sideload' apps from outside of the Store and you get dire warnings if you do that.

The LG K10 was issued with Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) or Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) so bearing in mind the "three iterations" rule, which is pretty standard, 8.1 might well be its limit.

A new Android phone won't break the bank and will give you a better phone experience.

The more I used it the more I didn't want to Too small The laptop is the best. If I could magically extend the room backwards, and get away with it I'd have a desk and the laptop in the docking station with a cordless mouse, clicky IBM keyboard and 2 wide screens

Nah, 12" tablet will do all you need in a music room and is a lot less noisy (mechanically and electrically).

Got John's ex tablet going but lost enthusiasm with the screen size, keyboard, YouTube cutting off if I went to another tab, Android software in general compared to W10 Keep meaning to give it another go
Had years at work with a desktop PC, the accessories above running into a nice little system. Flitting between windows and screens, music either from CD or t'internet

You can do that all, it's a matter of learning. Use the YouTube app, not the browser. I can switch between apps in about 1s on the Samsung. It's fast and the battery life is about a week. The 12"screen is excellent and it sits nicely in your lap.

Hopefully not a new phone but
Battery seems to be running out much faster, different from day to day with minimal use. Need to check that Unrelated to.. After a not so good visit to the dentist dropped the phone and cracked the screen, still usable so far.
LG K10 Cost of a battery and a screen is roughly how much and is a new to me phone going to be less ?
Do I just move the SIM over if I do ?

Yes, the combination is likely to be uneconomical to repair. You'd be much better off with a new phone anyway.
Anything with lower than Android 10 is obsolete.

Will check if the battery is a problem first How long is ok for it to hold its charge ? Do you mean powered up but in standby, Mike? A decent battery with some usage should last at least a day. Older phones and batteries won't last as long, a sure sign that something needs replacing.

Older phones and batteries won't last as long, a sure sign that something needs replacing. Think so It will ring if I have a phone call. Makes other noises to indicate emails or similar I assume I may be ok then With my low usage I was getting 2-3 days or longer on one charge. Charged to 89% at 10am. Now on 79% at 4.30pm Is it good or bad to leave it on charge overnight ?

It's fine overnight, but unplug it for the day so that it cycles normally.
