I use the one called Sound Meter. It's only as accurate as the phone's mic, of course.
Correlates reasonably well with the Radio Shack meter (and you can compensate to make it the same).
Advanced Spectrum Analyzer is a good tool for instant frequency balance. Use it with pink noise.

If anyone is looking for a large screen Android tablet for music controller and/or general purpose use, I can recommend the Samsung S7 FE with complete confidence. At considerably less cost than the S7, it loses nothing in real-world terms unless you're going to play games on it, which I do not.
The screen is large and very nice, with great colours and enough resolution to make pixels disappear. It runs Android 11, it's very swift and has plenty of working memory and storage. Using it is a pleasure with applications opening and switching crisply. Battery life is deeply impressive with deep sleep and instant waking, mine needing a charge less than once a week.
Practically speaking, it runs not only dedicated apps like BubbleUPnP, Qobuz and Spotify very well, but the full suite of Office 365 applications to a level that makes it a proper on-the-go work tool.
Hint: buy the wi-fi only version which has a more powerful processor. There is simply no need for the 4G version when everyone has a phone for tethering these days.

My Oppo X3 Lite has just updated itself to Android 12 and ColorOS 12. Nice. Things have moved around a bit, so need to re-learn it a little.

It seems to be just as fast as before, John. My Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard seems to work better, too.

Looks like I'm stuck at Android 11, unless I want to bugger about with custom ROMs and all sorts of arecane doo-dahs. Xiaomi / Redmi, apprently, only upgrade by 2 iterations of Android per model, and mine was issued with Android 9.

I think they do that so that the new releases of OS never have to cope with very old or out of date hardware. As John and I bought ours with Android 11, 12 is probably the last upgrade for them. That's fine with me.
On another note, the screen protector that came on my Oppo had started to wear noticeably in well-used areas. I bought a TechGear glass replacement on the advice of the guys at work and the kit came with everything required to effect a very neat and bubble-free replacement that should be more robust.

My next phone will be a Fairphone. I see a lot of buzz-phrases about sustainability, but what's the story with them?

My next phone will be a Fairphone. I see a lot of buzz-phrases about sustainability, but what's the story with them? They are constructed so that you can take them apart easily and repair them. New screen NP, new battery NP. Breath of fresh air. They even come with a screwdriver, I saw. They are not made of cheese either! Usual specs and toughness. The opposite is true of ALL the other manufacturers.

Not an app to track, but smart speakers and streaming to create a restful environment. I'd tried the sound of rain, waves etc of many of the available 'Help you sleep' sounds and apps, but they all tended to keep me awake not help me sleep. Waves crashing, forest sounds with loud animal interruptions😂 - I long since left the forest 🙂 None of them lasted long enough either. Loops have ends and restarts, you start listening for them - keeps you awake! I started using Pink Noise on Spotify and then even better the rather unsavoury named - Brown Noise. Comes from the categorisation of machines like fans etc that make a constant low / dull sound, some find relaxing. I programmed Alexa to obey the command "Good night" and play Sound machines 10hr non-stop. No loops, no changes. I just say "Good night" and off it goes. open.spotify.com/episode/3pE4uKFwCzd5TA2A6t4rHr?si=kuqtye47QZ6tJDm-jP9aAg&utm_source=copy-linkIt's amazing at blocking out noises that might interrupt your sleep. I find it very easy to fall asleep to - not that the initial falling asleep part is a problem. Staying asleep is more the problem. For some reason this is very soothing and induces me to fall asleep again, should I wake up. I don't need it on very loud either. What I've found White noise actually sounds high high pitched - it's all frequencies at the same amplitude. Pink noise is with the bass boosted somewhat, so it sounds more balanced. Brown noise is even more bass boosted.

Lyrics excerpt from Wetleg, IoW girl band...
"Is you mother worried? Would you like us to assign someone to worry your mother?"
That's how I feel about sleep apps - without any real knowledge of them😂
I feel like you are assigning an app to worry you about your sleep... Unless it's perfect of course🙂

Uninstall PrimeNap and any other apps that came with it. Don't mess with apps that haven't been screened properly and play silly buggers with your phone. I installed a compass app once that blared adverts at full volume in the middle of the night. Nasty shit.
Is your Android up to date? Security gets much better with Android 10 onwards (older versions are out of support).
