Only seems like forever. Wonder if Kafka wrote about my life with pooters and now mobile phones. The time I've spent trying to sort out my phone with the awfully low signal strength Using a mobile instead of a PC is such a pain. Three probably more helpful than most with this page www.three.co.uk/support/network_and_coverage/network_supportI'm part way through their recommended steps and up pops a message We’re fixing an issue with our network in this area We’re sorry for any disruption you experience. Our engineers are working on masts nearby, which means the rest of our network is handling more traffic than usual. Updates on our work will be posted here. We’re working as fast as we can to build a better, stronger network in your area. You can find more help and advice below. And you can read more about our Big Network Build here. Last updated on 04:45 pm 24 April 2021. Good news they are building better and stronger Would have saved time had I registered when the SIM arrived of course Downloading and Updating are taking an age even via my Plusnet router Only desperation would drive me to use a mobile when I have a pc handy

I dropped my beautiful LG G7 on a tile floor and cracked the glass in a stupid moment of grappling with it. Damnation. The cost of repair approaches what I paid for it. Double damnation. LG no longer make mobile phones so the cost of a straight replacement (even used) has rocketed. Triple damnation. I've done my homework and reckon an Oppo X3 Lite will do the job nicely. May as well go for 5G now. It seems to tick all the boxes while having a slightly larger screen, 5G, double the RAM, similar performance, better battery life, earphone jack, very fast charging and Android 11. Oddly, only the silver model comes with a metal chassis, so that's the one I'm going for. At £329 from Argos less about £60 of Nectar points it doesn't blow my £300 ceiling for a phone. Any other suggestions? www.gsmarena.com/oppo_reno5_5g_find_x3_lite-review-2261.php

How's Ebay look for LGs 2nd hand ? Terrible, there's only overpriced chaff left now. I tried another G7 or a G8 (their final flagship) but I don't like the look of any of them and too many are from the US, may be locked to a provider, or still has their software, or doesn't obey all of our standards. It's a big risk buying a foreign model of any phone.

I was going to get this Xiaomi when I thought my phone had died. Great specs all round and very good reviews. The Oppo looks excellent too for a bit more dosh. I looked at Xiaomi for sure, as well as Lenovo (Motorola) and a few others. All midrange phones have compromises but the Oppo fits my needs well. I'm not a gamer so dismissed those specs, for instance, as well as the lack of wireless charging which I simply don't use. However, I couldn't do without NFC which I use for Google Pay all the time, whereas Ruth's Moto doesn't have it.

After the usual arse of reconfiguring all my apps (especially tricky ones like Authenticator and LastPass, which required the old phone to be working), I can happily say that the Oppo is excellent. Despite the apparently 'slower' processor, it's actually faster and can do snappier task switching with twice the RAM available. It's also obviously more frugal with the battery. Shows how a generation later still brings better technology. The camera is great, the fingerprint sensor behind the screen works well, Android 11 has some slick new tricks, the screen is bright, face recognition is frighteningly instant even in a dim room and it feels nice and solid in my hand. The LG is dead, long live the Oppo.

Very nice Martin. The battery isn't the biggest in the Oppo but it can apparently do a full charge in only 35 mins they claim.

Yes, very fast charging is a feature. So far today, with a lot of usage while setting things up in between doing work, it still has 40% charge left. The LG would be flat by now.

Thanks Martin,
Good question, I've been very happy with the Samsung S8, but at nearly 3years old it's just not worth replacing the screen.
So something that's not huge, with a decent camera, nfc, good battery life and decent Bluetooth standards for my headphones. And something I can get a good case for as it's bound to get dropped.
Was looking at the Poco f3, Samsung a52 and the oppo.
Looks like the poco has the worst camera, but the best chip set.
