Just a follow-up on the Teclast T30 tablet. I really can't fault it at all. Battery life is epic when controlling my music (it lasts almost a week on a charge), performance leaves the Neocore for dead, the Android 9 is great and free of bloatware, screen quality is good and so bright that I run it at the dimmest setting, bezel is thin, wi-fi works without a hitch and all my apps installed without problems. It also feels nicely constructed and fairly weighty, not all plastic. Not at all bad for £150.

Sounds like a brilliant recommendation, Martin.

It's amazing getting a gadget that good at that price even in USD, and has a headphone jack.

I LOVE the Vinylage App! Apart from the neat interface with turntable choice and scratch on/off function - it has an addictive sound quality. Once I start listening to tracks, I can't seem to stop. Vocals have a certain authenticity and clarity. Good micro dynamics and at times, huge panoramic soundfield. At least that's what I get with the well-known Oukitel K3 and Sony MDR-NC22 earphones. It's such a good combination, I've a spare set should they go faulty. One pair has. I'm using the JVC QL-A95. Think it sounds better than the others.

I have to hand my LG Q6 phone in soon, as I am leaving my job for another one. After having a long think about it, I've ordered an LG G7. Stick to what I know and like but go for a little more screen size and a little more power. Job done, I hope. Should have it on Monday.

Certainly it’s an “interesting” time to do it. You won’t know what normal is for a while...

I really got my mine for the 6080mA battery - and some reasonable reviews! Charges in just a couple of hours with the charger it came with, but battery isn't what it was after a year's use now. But it sounds pretty good. Was £135 a year ago, but got one for a friend last Christmas for £47 - which was a real bargain. Can I ask what your new job is? Luckily, I have only 3 years left. I won't miss it.

I have just under 5 years left to retirement, Stephen, so it was do it now or just stick. I was headhunted, luckily, and that gave me the impetus to leave when I was made the offer. I'm going to be Director of IT Services for a much larger, highly academic, school which is four times over-subscribed. Big numbers, big infrastructure, big team. That should learn me keep me busy for a while.

I bank on using my experience vs working all hours as I used to having taken on a new job a year ago. I was planning on retiring this year and might well do. Pensions are struggling currently (80% of mine is DC) but my situation is relatively ok.

Thanks, Clive, I will. Having an end target will help me get through the days and the commute (40 miles each way).

With the marked drop in air pollution now (Covid-19) being enjoyed by all, going back to poisoning ourselves by traffic should be off the table asap. Of course you might be all rural roads, but the overall resp of reducing CO2 etc falls on us all.

I can report that the LG G7 ThinQ is every bit as good as I'd hoped for. Like a grown-up Q6, it has a similar feature set but the screen real estate is considerable, it's faster, it supports wi-fi calling, and after a ton of updates taking absolutely ages, it's now up to Android 9 from the supplied Android 8.

I've been fascinated with the sound quality of my LG G7 phone. I hadn't fully appreciated the sound specs at the time but it turns out you can enable the quad 32-bit DACs and select from digital filters.
I've chosen ' short' which has a response that looks like my LKS 'Slow-M' response.
Listening to Jules' Barenboim suggestion on Qobuz in 24/96 with my Soundmagic E10 earphones, it really does sound mighty fine for a phone.

The LG G7 updated itself to Android 10 this evening. I didn't even know 10 was available for anything other than Pixels.
It feels faster and slicker to me, although I have a couple of niggles with the swype keyboard.

Thanks - I never got that update with my Q6 before moving on to the G7. The G7 has it as standard. Both audio and camera are really impressive on the phone. I like Android 10, nice and fast. However, why did they have to change the keyboard? I used to be able to long-press 'b' for a comma and now it doesn't work, I have to press symbol-shift and then comma. It's small things like this that make me wonder why they changed it?
