The AMOLED screen on my Samsung tablet is just superb.

I'm not baulking really, but I like my funds to go into sound quality.
The Neocore is very good in one respect: battery life. I could pick up a Samsung Galaxy Tab, but it won't last nearly as long. It was fun seeing if I could pick up something nondescript that proved to be brilliant. It wasn't.

I see it as "just" another system component that should be of the same quality as the rest of the system. I still say you should take a look at Huawei though. "Quality costs, but quality wastes, so I'm giving up all of my expensive tastes..."
The Kinks - Low Budget..
Of course in reality, buy good, buy once, it's a much better addadage.
Premium quality, even preloved, wisely chosen, will always beat cheap, not so cheerful crap - hands down.
Your stories of phone damages tear at my heart! Please guys, never put anything else in the same pocket as your phone. It is holy! Aways secure in unopenable, pocket, pouch etc etc
Used or new chewing gum foil scratches gorilla glass in no time too!
I did my time listening to the HW quality guys on phone programmes..

I'm thinking about a Samsung tab a 10.1 for about £150 or push the boat out and get the Samsung S5e for double that. The really low cost tablets all seem to cut some corner or other. Has anyone compared these two tablets?

I'm using the Neocore E1 now and it's a nice tablet with a good display and fabulous battery life. If only it had a bit more poke it would be perfect.

The Huawei T5 does look good, especially the display and performance.
The M5 looks even better.
EDIT: however, if the US government insists that Google pull them from the Play Store, it's curtains for the range.

As I understand it, should that come to pass then new phones won't be licensed to run the Play Store. Existing models that have access to the Play Store should not be affected.

The Teclast T30 looks to have everything I need - IPS display, large battery, octa-core processor, metal body, Android 9. It would also suit Paul's desire for me to have something befitting the rest of my system I'm trying to avoid Samsungs because of their bloatware. If Neocore were introducing a faster model, I'd take it. We have a couple of Lenovo E10 at work and they're not bad, but not special either. It's amazing how few decent Android tablets there are now.

Well I have another budget android phone!
This time it's an UMIDIGI F1 Play. I already knew of the brand as I bought my son a previous model a year or so ago. They are all about making high performance phones at reasonable prices. I bought it for £150 on Amazon with a -15% flash sale.
Specs are silly for the money - 6mb / 64gb, 2340 x 1080 display, 5150mAh battery, 48mp camera & fast charging. Not bad eh?
The screen quality is wonderful, everything works smoothly and fast, pics are very crisp indeed. I also like it that you get a decent case and pre-applied screen protector included.
Very early days but only two things stop it from being perfect at this price. First is no LED notification, which bugs me. Second, another shitty speaker!!! It is better than the Cubot but still not up to my Lenovo which has a suggestion of bass. Managed to improve things a little with Spotify equalizer.
All things considered though, fab for the money thus far.

I bought the Teclast T30 and I'm setting it up now while waiting for my car at the tuning company (some kind of pursuit merging, I call it). First impressions are very positive. It's fast, has a great display, nice stock Android, got it all up and running in no time. Impressed!

Is the Scooby not fast enough for you Martin?? I'm loving my Umidigi - not had to recharge it yet, and the stock Android 9 is smooth as silk - no bloatware at all on the phone.

Hah - just a little tuning tweak for low end pull.
Android 9 seems nice and smooth. However, using the Microsoft Launcher on both this (I'm using it now) and my LG phone with Android 8.1, I am hardly aware of any difference.

Yes agree, and fit a case and screen protector as soon as it comes out of the box.

Ooh yeah, the Teclast T10 is as fast as the Neocore E1 is slow. Lovely display, feels good and well made.
I don't understand this love of screen protectors. Horrid things that spoil the good feel of the glass screen. It's the first thing I removed. Nasty.

I hate screen protectors too. I always buy a gel case that slips over the back and sides for any new device, phone or tablet, and add a decent slip case for a phone.

You forget it's there, and they have saved my screen on several occasions, dropped phones etc.

Gel case for my phone, nothing for the tablet at home (I don't drop it).
Screen protectors feel scrape-y and dull the brilliant display quality.
