Umidigi phones are excellent - bought one for my son, lots of spec for the money.
Don't see the point in going uber cheap unless you really have to!

My lack of knowledge shows all too well.
The new price looked so very low to me, especially when surrounded by the boss and family all using those really cheap Apple jobbies !

I've just picked up one of these (in metallic blue) on eBay. It was a few pennies shy of £85.00, but it was a part of their "Partytime" promotion over the weekend, so I got 20% off. It was listed as "Opened – never used," and it looks it. It's in absolutely perfect condition. I've just upgraded it to Android 9.0, slapped a 128 GB SD card inside, and it's ready to rock.

Nice. I'm still on Android 8.1 with my LG Q6, despite reports of Android 9 being released for it elsewhere in the world. Still a great phone, though.

I'd love to have stayed with LG and moved up from my G4 to a G6, but at twice what I paid for the Alcatel, and for something that's essentially out of date, and sits on my desk for 95% of the time anyway, I really couldn't justify it.

My 'budget' Google Pixel XL (budget cos' it was second hand) but in very tidy condition, is still going great guns. Been on Android 10 a good long while now. They just informed me that the last Android 10 update was incoming. After that it's security threats only. I can't fault it for a budget buy.
It goes with me everywhere that's dry 😀
I use it a lot. To view Excel docs, diagrams of things, calculate stuff, browse, Instagram, Tapatalk for forums, check and record the tension of my tennis racquets, as a sat nav (car/bike/on foot), a torch, an iPod, newspapers, casting live sport streams to TVs, viewing YouTube etc how tos, checking my premium bond winnings, private and business emails, controlling Sonos and Alexa / Okay Google when they're naughty, banking, HMRC verification, PayPal, messaging family and friends - WhatsApp/Messenger (video calls too) /even old fashioned SMS, rebooting the RPi, Streaming Spotify, booking tennis courts, checking what pros use which gear, TV listings, testing WiFi strength / channels, alarms compass, magnefying glass, ocassional crude hifi frequency checker, eBay and Amazon and other purchases, calendar appointments and reminders, address book, a camera, video camera, oh and yes the odd phone call..
Anyone who doesn't do more or some of the above / their own stuff on their Phone just can't be normal these days, can they? 😄 Mike? 🤔😀😀😀

I do a lot of that, too. It's a work tool and goes with me everywhere. Unlike young people, though, it's not plastered to my hand.

Satnav I need to start using on the phone. Torch should be good. Take it with me when I go out on the bike when I remember ! That's about it. I don't go out much

I'm trying another Android tablet for controlling my system, this time a no-name Android 8 tablet from Wish with 256GB storage and octa-core processor for just £57.
The Neocore has fantastic battery life but is painfully slow and stuck with A7.
Oh, and I threw in a nice solid red aluminium gear knob...

I'd been thinking of changing my phone as battery life had started to deplete considerably. Events yesterday made up my mind for me - took my phone out of my pocket only to find that the camera lens had been perfectly shattered! I can only assume a high pressure contact with my keys was the culprit ...
I've ordered a new phone via Gearbest who were doing a flash sale on a Cubot that on paper and looking at reviews is very promising and just 90 quid delivered, which is about half the price of other phones I was looking at.

The Mike test
Put your Android phone in your deep back pocket in your riding jacket Go for ride 5 miles down the road travelling around 20 mph note object fall onto leg and road. Clatter, bang
Puzzled, play safe, stop bike, go back Phone, back and battery on the road Fortunately not run over by any cars
Broken surely
Nope. Still looks ok and works !

Lycra and mobile phones have negative friction. Still baffled why it came out. Zipped pocket only now
Looking for somewhere to keep it safe if I come off so not crushed or smashed up

My new Cubot P30 arrived today.
Superb high rez screen, more than enough power and storage and very easy to set up.
So far only one down side, the speakers are absolutely pants which is a real shame.

All phone speakers are pants. They're only good for voice.

The Neocore has fantastic battery life but is painfully slow and stuck with A7. This is a lesson in how different Android tablet implementations can be. The Chinese no-name actually has A9 installed. Performance is not bad but it's very cheaply constructed and, worst of all, the display resolution seems to be forcing it to show apps like Volumio in phone mode rather than 'desktop' mode. Consequently, and critically for me, it won't display Volumio the way I like it. It shows every sign of Android being kludged in with no ability to update it. At least I got the Play store in once I gave it a Google account, and then Microsoft Launcher installed fine. However, the experiment failed as it's no good for its prime purpose. Back to the Neocore that works very well if rather slow.

Martin, if you're prepared to pay over £1500.00 for a mains cable why are you baulking at the expense of a dedicated, half-decent, Android tablet to control your entire system that would cost you three-hundred quid tops? Sorry, but that sounds absolutely daft to me. You could take a look at Huawei, mine is great, or even something like a decent refurbed Samsung.
