I have found that 5-10% of recordings can sound better than CD res. For instance, I have a QOTSA album that sounds better in MP3 than red book. Madness, but true. Losing information can sometimes work for the better. Yes, I've heard that effect before. I noticed it particularly with a Quad 606 power amp. It was defo lower rez than what I had been used to, and presented noticeably less ambient/background information. But that lack of background had the effect of enhancing the dynamic contrast of the foreground instruments so it actually sounded more vivid. I was certainly hearing less of what was on recordings, though. But that's not what is going on with my BT gizmo. What it does especially well is the imaging and hearing into the subtleties of the recording ambience. Or that's what it sounds like to me.

In our AV system I use the HDMI connection back from the TV into an HDMI audio extractor box and then via optical to a Beresford Caiman II DAC. The audio quality is excellent, from either streamed TV or music from Spotify using the LG apps.

Current setup ... Laptop > Halide Bridge USB/coax converter & W4S Recovery reclocker > Rega DAC > Emotiva PT-100 preamp > Musical Fidelity X10v3 buffer and Rock Grotto PSU > Temple Audio Monoblocks with Supercharger PSUs {> MBL 116f x2} -- and an Arcam DVD player for silver disc spinning. Enjoyment factor so far is HIGH - much air conducting to Bychkov's Brahms 2nd symphony implies it's a good listen. And I think my SMSL M200 Bluetooth DAC has just arrived by post.

It's a good listen so far. Quite a polite sound in a way, it somehow seems to inhibit dynamic peaks. Which is fine by me but wouldn't be for a lot of folks! Tonally rich, a bit like a Rembrandt painting - which is odd, as that sort of comparison wouldn't usually occur to me!

I'm already a big fan of the wired H6, which look identical apart from the socketry, so a comparison will be very interesting.

This Bluetooth obsession must result in some Blurry (left in spelling correction of Bluetooth LOL) headphones, Jerry.
When you get a pair, and you will I am sure eventually, you'll love the freedom they provide.
I mean proper Bluetooth headphones not in-ear annoyances.

Do the B&O H7 Bluetooth over-ear headphones count as proper? If so, a pair are already on their way to me. If they don't, I think you need to readjust your definition of proper.

Think so. Very pretty they look, too. Now you can wash the car, roam free in the garden and entertain prime young virgins whilst museing over your latest classical piece. A genuine result!

entertain prime young virgins With Beethoven, I hope? At my age, that is probably correct.

I really do think you'll love those B&Os. I love my Sony WH-1000XM3. I lost my Bose somehow.
XM3 are now MUCH cheaper now the XM4 is out. XM4 probably isn't worth the extra dosh.
The freedom to roam with cans on is fabulous at home. Wires are so passe.

I'm a big fan (and owner) of the H6, which is pretty much the same as the H7, I think, except for Bluetooth connectivity. It'll be interesting to compare them.
I did wonder about the Sony 1000xm3 but decided I'd stay with a 'house sound' I knew I liked.

Hmm, to Qobuz or not to Qobuz?
Albums are losing tracks in a rapid and disturbing manner. Went back to the albums of Malcolm Arnold symphonies on Chandos, and most of the tracks are no longer available. Similar on other long term favourites.
Spotify still has them.
Hmm.
