Reknowned in some parts of our little audiophile world as a boxswapper of some note, I have to confess that the swapping has slowed down a little of late.
Here's the current state of my system ....
And a close-up of my latest toy, it arrived last Saturday evening ....
.... and to say I am pleased with it would be a bit of an understatement.
A Ming Da MC368 BSE .... I've no idea what the letters stand for, but maybe the MC is mad cow.

Perfect! Just what I needed. My hero. I have clearly pushed it close to the limits with Sue. The look of love still shines in her eyes but there is one of desperation too. (Let down by a friend - for all Owen is black hole horder, and any object of HiFi approaching his event horizon never escapes, his good lady is a beautiful tidier, so when we arrive there are but the 2 pairs of Electrostatics in a huge room, with everything bar the turntable concealed behind cupboard doors. Last night, listening to the ESL63's (Marriage of Figaro - my strongest card) she said "they do sound wonderful, but couldn't we try the Ventricals again" - and, wait for it, Maybe the stereo should be between the speakers. (she meant in a a cupboard) Ha - this photo should teach her to appreciate that she has got away with a flesh wound at this stage Cupboards indeed!

Nice, Jerry, I look forward to hearing it one day. What's the solid state amp lurking at bottom-right of the rack, with the frog?

Yes well, all this hi-fi stuff is all well and good, but tell us more about the ducks!

You can, to a great degree get away with a lot if it's all black Unfortunately I had to spoil perfection with getting some naff old silver kit - just because it sounded better !

The front right foot looks precariously close to the edge!

Ah, my little Man Cave. The wife has her own den so I'm allowed to do what I want in mine.
Ducks -- ooo, you haven't seen the half of 'em!
The big solid stater is a NAD S300 - aka Gryphon Tabu Century - from the brief period when Danish high end manufacturer Gryphon were owned by NAD. Best "NAD amp" ever made! I'm in Deep Lurv with the Ming Da amp at the moment, but I'm sure I'll be feeling a yearning for solid state at some point, so the NAD's ready and willing to fire up when that happens.
You (and anyone else) are welcome round, Martin.

Don't those valves require some air ... " It's gettin hot down here mister! " The wood shelf above does get warm, but there's 100% ventilation all round. It's fine.

A close-up of my rather nice vintage Technics CD player .... It may be ancient digital technology but it sounds as good as any CDP I have heard.

I'm sure that quite a few of these early CDPs were much better than we remember. Probably not up the Technics standard but the Philips I had way back was built like a tank and whilst aural memory is notably flaky, I remember being very impressed with the way it sounded. It went toward paying for the Quad57 rebuild, shame but priorities and all that. Excuse the pic on your thread.

I remember them well, Gordon. Superbly built and slow in operation. Better sounding than the Sony CDP-101. Everyone puzzled over how a 14-bit DAC could be used in a 16-bit system, but it was simple Information Theory. Great design, poor marketing (lots of "I want a 16-bit player" to deal with).

. Excuse the pic on your thread. No problem, Gordon.
I've always fancied a listen to one of those very early CD machines. My bet is that they are a lot better than one might expect. I waited quite a few years after they began before finally getting a CDP - a Marantz 65ii, I think, so a few generations after the one in your pic. And yes, the Technics is very special imo.

God how I used to lust after that machine back in the day - remember going to clubs where they would have a couple of those next to the SL-1200's ... Happy days!

Hey Jerry, six weeks and no changes. What gives?

Hmm, all quiet on the western front. Well, actually a new amp arrived yesterday, but with an 'issue' that I hope to get sorted shortly. The one major change in terms of sound quality over the last 6 weeks has been the insertion of Epiphany Acoustics Atratus III interconnects. Easily the most transparent cables I have ever heard. Also major on image focus. And as those two sq aspects are at the top of my personal priorities, the Atratus III has become my i/c of choice.

Never heard of them, Jerry. Cables are such a black art, I really want to stick with what I'm using for a good long time now - except for Tony/Coherent's 6D power cable, which I'm hoping will be delivered soon.

If you'd like to try a little Amptastic t-amp, DQ, I'd be pleased to loan you one to have a play with. Regardless of opinions elsewhere, I think they are fine amps.
