Well, quite astonishing. It was dropped off at a DPD supporting shop Saturday afternoon, and it's here already, Monday 2pm. And in A1 condition, thankfully. I'm not totally attuned to the looks. The silver squiggly badge is a bit naff. The red LED display is quite a lot naff. The sound is..... not naff at all. Woof! Quite a forceful and explicit presentation. This could be entertaining.

I'm lucky, in so much as I seem to get decent service from most couriers, even Hermes n.k.a. "Evri". My only complaint about DPD is that I appear to live in one of their depots, as they quite often deliver to me between 07:30 and 08:00. Too early guys.

When you have a 100 inch projector in between your speakers, live YouTube gigs are very hard not to watch in preference to boring old audio only. It's interesting as I'm happy to watch great YouTube clips on this 12" tablet while listening on the system via Bluetooth and the sound is big and realistic and makes a very good fist of live concerts. However, when I listen to Qobuz streams the sound opens up and the room becomes cavernous in acoustic space. The effect is so 3D that I have no need for a picture to accompany it. TBH you have to do a lot of searching to hit decent YT live content. I reject so many I probably have a 25% 'that's good enough to watch" hit rate, if that. Things really do get much more like going to a live gig in a small pub with a 35 by 14 foot room, a big screen and a pair of big planars. I was thinking a pair of contemporarily built Apogee Divas or Full Range based speakers would be necessary in this newer room. But it doesn't seem necessary. I am not ruling that out for the future, though. I have a much larger room in the main house, so maybe when I retire I'll make something ridiculous. With a little help from other people;)

I watch YouTube vids on my phone. !! This works due to the discovery and acquisition of phone holding arms which clamp to nearby furniture and dangle the phone about 12 inches from my head, creating a suitably wide angled presentation. Sounds crazy, but it works! Eg. It's theoretically all relative. A phone 8 inches from your eyeballs is larger than 100 inch screen at 25 feet. I just tried that, though. I know which I prefer;)

Ayre aesthetics take some beating let's face it.

Oh yes. The Ayre is a looker, no doubt. The Simaudio looks like it was designed by a committee. But it's black, and the horrible red display can be turned off, so the amp just kind of disappears. Thankfully. I could always cover the horrible silver badge thing with black electrical tape.
I am much enamoured of its sound, though. Quite a different presentation to the Ayre. Maybe I'll keep both.
Hmm..... maybe the Simaudio pre-outs feeding into the Ayre power amp section.....

No interconnects! The Simaudio is practically a 1-box solution. How embarrassing. What a comedown for a once great box swapper who is used to seas of boxes festooned with connecting cables. Ok, I still have loads of boxes. They just aren't being used.
Well, apart from the TOSLINK optical cable going from the tiny AudioEngine Bluetooth receiver.

I'm up anyway Not so keen on the usual DPD ring of the door bell and waiting for me to get myself to the front door.
