... I think for me using BT5 places a natural limit on Qobuz... Yes, I've been pondering on that point as well. A little while back I reverted to my previous USB wired connection and I didn't like it at all! It sounded artificially hyped up, and yet previously I had really enjoyed it. I suspect part of that is system changes have been built around the Spotify/BT sound, and that has taken the presentation away from being friendly to a more explicit source.

I been reflecting on why I prefer BT5 over the streamers I tried. So for example Clive is right when he says the Limetree has a touch more resolution but it is also has just a touch of edginess than the BT5 receiver and I rather lose that 1% of resolution than gain a slight bit of edgy treble. Thinking deeper about this it probably was not the Limetree but more likely my BT Hub 6 router even with the Lan cleaner and Melcord cable.
A dedicated hub might of sorted that out

That edginess with hi-res took me a year of careful changes to resolve.

You boys just need a Tandy graphic equaliser - save you a lot of faff!

I think I am no longer being seduced by getting more resolution The only issue I still have is one of consistency I still have to turn everything off for a minute and restart as by doing this it removes a bit of grain the system picks up from the factory nearby I would love to resolve this issue I tried reginartors and balanced mains but neither resolved the issue

You boys just need a Tandy graphic equaliser - save you a lot of faff! I've got a Behringer, does that count? It is plumbed in,but seldom gets out of 'neutral' frequency response. Occasional use mainly on chamber music to narrow down the stereo width which is quite nifty.

I use a Behringer Great for bass and the active crossover

I had to cut 10hz on the bass to get the bass not overpowering the rest of the system using Quobuz Sounds a lot better I wonder if this was a previous issue I had but didn't notice. Getting the best of high resolution means taking another 7 hz off the crossover settings I wonder if I was having the same issue before but didn't notice it. I think it is easier for me to identify issues in set up

I recently had my Mutec modified by Tony. This is stage 2 remove the power supply and change the internal wiring to 6D It is a DC connection. Tony also did a bit more damping to the Mutec. He also upgraded the power supply Rather than talk about the sound quality such as micro detail etc perhaps a experience would summarize this better. I was listening to this It is almost like being at the concert Johns guitar sound is on point hitting those fast runs and hearing the harmonics squeal. Mike drum kit is imposing and fully hearing drums like tom toms and the kick drums are properly kicking. Remember this is in YouTube not known for its audiophile quality. It leaves me with a smile and feeling satisfied.

The Mutec (with and without USB) is still an underrated piece of kit, straddling the pro and hi-fi worlds. What Tony does to them takes them even higher still up the ladder.

Agree they are a excellent Reclocker and with the mods it takes them a good few step further.

I've no idea what that Dream Theater YT clip sounded like on your system, John, but I really enjoyed it on headphones this morning! Thanks for the link. It's all about the music.

John, what was your final assessment of the Limetree streamer with Spotify?
Do you have to use their app or can you now use Spoti Connect?

The Limetree app is good with Spotify a lot better than Volumio IMO

Any thoughts on comparison with the Tinker in terms of sound quality?

For me a step up on the ATB The only reason why I moved on was that my Ethernet connection was the week link

The last few months has been doing my best to sort out my mains issues A slow and frustrating process of deduction First lesson was to remove everything with a SMPS off the circuit. This means I turn off the Behringer when not playing and the Router is connected downstairs Lesson 2 WIFI affects my sound quality. Best way to deal with this is turn my router off during the day when I am out and then turn it on before I listen It best to leave everything else on during the day so no warm up issues. Years of thinking my biggest issue was the factories nearby, only to discover that that is not really the issue

I been reflecting on the hybrid speaker design I am now using Having the KEFs allow me to crossover with the bass at 90hz. In the past I was crossing over around 275hz. This means that the Neo are now not having to struggle to do the 100 to 300hz region. This leads to having more impact, definition and natural timbre. Not having the bass in a box means I am not having to worry about controlling all the resonances from the bass drivers. The reason why speaker manufactures goes to great lengths to control this. The energy and naturalness that comes from this system is something to experience.
