I was chatting with Vic about the speakers. I was noticing if I wanted to crank up the volume I started to hear the speakers distorting. My system had a sweet spot and could be thin if I lowed the volume down. He suggested adding 2 x 4" drivers to the mix so on Saturday Vic kindly added the new drivers. The drivers now have a gentle C shape curve to them. Its another step forward. It still has that natural flow, but I can now play as loud as I want to, and it also sounds better at lower volume listening levels. The treble has improved so sometimes noticing new information. Bass has even more punch, and the depth has improved. I have been surprised just how much the design has developed in terms of performance.

That's interesting, John. Do you think you were overloading the previous driver array?

I was basically asking the drivers to do too much. So I would say just using the 3s sound great with acoustic music. Having the extra drivers allow me to play bands like Dream Theater to the levels they demand.

I'd love to see a photo of the current array.

That's a tower of power ...
John, where are you at with streaming - have you given Qobuz another chance since changes made to system?

I have not felt the need, to be honest Jules. I know I should give it another try as the sound has matured but I am happy with Spotify as it is great for discovering music and prefer the interface. When it is safe to visit you have to come and listen to the system.

A few changes I had to replace the Behringer Inuke 1000d with the NX3000d as my old one blew. The design is more traditional looking. I replaced the SGS grounding cable with the Coherent Balanced cable, more depth and naturalness. I also added a USB cable to the RTZ from Coherent, this has added a bit more top end detail. I am still using three IFi silencers on the right-hand side of the USB inputs.

Where are you using the ifi Silencers, John?

So the Tinkerboard has four USB ports close to each other they are in a stack of twos. On the left-hand side, I have the cables going the RTZ, on the right side, I have the USB silencers One has a USB cable going to the reclocker with the new IFi Silencer 3 I prefer it feeding the USB cable. Its all a bit overkill I know, but it works for me.

Ok, I see now thanks. I removed the ifi Silencers when I installed the BR grounding box, the two seemed to be fighting each other.
Interestingly, I re-deployed a Silencer on my PC system between my BRIX computer and the SMSL Q5 and that definitely improved sound quality.

How high is your ceiling, John?!!

It is just over 6 foot I reckon the speakers are about 5 foot in length. The drivers have a C shaped curve.

I am trying Quobuz again, so far I am enjoying the sound quality. I still dislike the interface.
