Got my personal plates back on this morning. Now it really feels like mine.
Some mods and a tune booked for next week.

No way - make a good car better and enjoy it more!
What the tune mainly does is remove all the slack included by the manufacturer for poor fuel, poor servicing, very old oil, extreme temperatures and barometric pressures, passing emissions tests at steady state speeds, etc., none of which my car will experience.

Are you having a tune, or a rolling road session?

I'm a big fan of the BRZ/GT86. Perfect balance of poise and power, although a lot of people bemoan them for being underpowered - I'm not having it.

Are you having a tune, or a rolling road session? Unequal length exhaust manifold, EcuTek modified map then rolling road to tweak to perfection. Before and after to see the improvements. Measurements are always useful if you can measure something!

Interesting you should say that, I've noted the same thing myself. It's really potent for a 2 litre naturally aspirated engine. 100bhp per litre is not to be sneezed at - you need forced induction for much more. Rev it to 7000rpm and it not only pulls but it makes a great sound, too.

Yes, it's peculiar to the flat four boxer engine. You can either go for equal length and get better top end power, or the unequal length for more torque but not such high-rev gains. Since I want midrange torque, its unequal length for me.

Mine is only 67bhp/litre.....but it is a 6 litre! Hah, hah, you win! Now you've got me guessing on what has around 400bhp. M5? No, of course not, 6l sounds like American muscle.

So it's a Monaro VXR/HSV GTO. I'd love it to have a little more poise (as the BRZ has in spades) but it is surprisingly agile for a lump.

Mine is currently about 116 BHP/litre normally aspirated, and the rev limiter is set at 8,000 rpm. It could go a bit higher, but I don't see the point.

What is it with you testosterone-fuelled middle aged bods? It's only a bloody tin box with a wheel at each corner I'll be on a bloody tandem next time I suspect Try taking a load of stuff down to Sidcup on one of those

I had a great day up at Tuning Developments in Warrington with my new BRZ. They're Subaru tuning specialists and they did before-and-after dyno runs to demonstrate the improvements. They installed an unequal length exhaust manifold and over-pipe, K&N air filter, H&R progressive springs, camber bolts, gear shift springs. They remapped the engine with an ECUTeK map and also did full laser wheel alignment with the new springs.
The outcome is about 20 more bhp, 30 more ft.lb torque and way more midrange drivability. It sounds like a V8 snarl when accelerating hard, the ride is very assured and handling and cornering are superb, the gear shift snicks like a rifle bolt, too. The whole thing feels like the sports car I always wanted. I'm well pleased and it (the car plus mods) didn't cost the earth, either. In fact, about half that of the BMW I used to own.
