Any thoughts then on how non-linearity in the supply fuse might make the purely digital use of Gaz's Transporter sound better? I can see how it might affect analogue kit - that's the reason for my question to Gaz on his use of the Transporter. It would be really interesting if someone felt flush enought to take one of these fuses to bits! Cheers. Bill Digital sits on an analogue carrier - if there's no carrier then it doesn't work Digital itself is one analogue state switching to another analogue state, just very rapidly. It would be interesting if someone did take one of these fuses apart. So, do you think that the non-linearity in the fuse is causing jitter? Would you expect the digital circuitry to have widely varying current draw? I doubt that the transporter is designed to operate with the fuse 'close' to its 'blow' rating. Cheers. Bill

If improved power supplies can make a DAC or a CD transport sound a lot better, then anything is possible. I certainly found that a linear power supply made a Logitech Touch sound better when feeding only digital out. I'd always assumed that this benefit was more likely to be from getting rid of switched mode power supplies with their attendant high frequency noise - and potential interaction with follow-on kit through common grounds etc. I'd guess these issues would be much greater than any non-linearity in the normal operating region of a supply fuse. Any further thoughts anyone? Cheers. Bill

I was just pointing out that digital isn't as digital as it's claimed to be. Analogue conditions can, and do, have an effect on how digital operates.

I have a Sr red going through my PC set up It makes a bit of an difference but bigger difference on the amplifier but at present still using a switch mode power supply which I plan too change in the future

None of them has the wit to actually try it for themselves. That's the fundamental issue with any such subjective debate. Lots of opinions proferred when what is needed are real experiences.

So, do you think that the non-linearity in the fuse is causing jitter? No idea, really. I know that digital circuitry is affected by power supplies so there is some mechanism at work. As Chris says, digital data is carried on an analogue waveform.

I will be taking a fuse home for Nick to collect tonight when he drops me some power supplies off. He will test and measure one.

Who will be assimilated ? LOL I know who I would like to be assimilated but I could not possibly say so in public.

AOS? That Bastian of Tolerance, Fair and Open-mindedness? Or so I once thought. Can't we have an inter-forum punch-up? I'll hold your coat, Dave. I'm trying one of these:
Not AOS I'm (actually) glad to say. I like to think Marco, most of his mods and I have a respectful understanding and if at all possible, I wish to keep it that way. This other forum's rather traditional products rarely come up here, but their early 70's simplistic attitude to objectivism got on my nerves and I over-reacted, took it to PM with the main man and ended up flouncing off in a rather spectacular way, for which I should know better at my age and experience in the particular matters I was trying to defend. I'm now a 'guest member' where I can log in and view, but not post or send PM's to anyone. Their loss imo - and I'm not being arrogant here either...
Good luck with that fuse. I'm more used to fusible resistors that sometimes blow and without a circuit diagram, they can be difficult to locate...

You should have waited a bit, so I could edit my previous post.
I can still hold your coat, Dave.
I would imagine resettable fuses don't get fitted due to being more expensive. Not that they're much more. The one shown is 35p + VAT.

Brawling over a fuse? Surely not? Arguing is better.

It doesn't matter what it was about - you just aren't allowed to disagree with the owner and his ass lickers there. Doesn't matter if you are right. Anyway they won't have many active members left at this rate.

That comment stands true for quite a few HiFi forums.

That comment stands true for quite a few HiFi forums. Certainly true for the forum I used to frequent before I found this place. Why do other forum owners have to be so controlling?

I don't think this is the place to go into that.

Nowt wrang with a bit of thread drift.
Anyway, the same money would get me 540 bags of Marmite chrisps - which I can't stop eating.
Call me a Philistine - "Yer a Philistine, mate" - but I know which I would choose.
Said he, munching another bag...
