Wow! Submarine steel, what is that ? Ah ! found it 1.55 better that 316 stainless, now that is cool...... I once had some machinery built for me and was visiting the workshops. The guy who owned the fabricating company was showing me how my job was progressing and I noticed a very large and thick slab of steel lying on timber bearers beside my job. I made some quip about not dropping it on your toes and thought no more about it. The next time I went, I was told that men in white suits with Geiger counters had been there the day before to check it out. They were trying to verify whether the steel, which had (it turns out) come from a nuclear submarine from A.N. Other Country, was contaminated in such a way as to be more damaging than a sore toe. ...........so, could be good for a 'glow in the dark dial'!

My next will be the new N.A.S.A. approved space watch from Omega, can't afford it yet ! My watch is a 'Speedmaster' but not the astronaut version. It's one I've never seen elsewhere in the flesh - an all silver face with a date hand. Photo isn't of mine but it's identical.

If you smashed into a surfboard with a U1 or U2 on the surfboard would come off worse!! Love the Sinn technology.
Interestingly(or not) Geiger counters are made from pre 1945 shipwreck steel as it's the only type without traces of radioactivity. Allegedly....

Although it's only half the weight of 135 vs 286g of the Nixon, I would swap as it's even rarer and all but 10 times the cost !! And I thought I only wanted an Omega N.A.S.A. space qualified watch..........................

Oh help! I have about 25 watches all of the Russian flavour, out of fashion at the moment. All are either automatic or manual and celebrate something or other. Mainly Vostok Europe, Poljot International and Sturmanskie.
The Poljot collection includes a 45th Anniversary of Gagarin's flight into space, number 007/999, Sturmanskie includes the 50th Anniversary of Gagarin's flight into space and Poljot celebrating the turn of the Millenium, these were made for the Archbishops of the Orthodox Russian church.
The final one to mention is made by the president of Poljot International in Celebration of Tchaikovsky's ballet 'Swan Lake' it is number 24 of 25.
Most watches have been given to me by friends and familly and the watches work faultlessly. Now't wrong with their craftmanship!

Traser - (Read in the dark) Had it 8 years now, and I don't think I have ever changed the Bat. Recommended. Would love to post a load of pics - but unlike HFS's simple upload attatchment (pics) format ------- TAS is a bloody nightmare. And I cant be arsed with the rigmarole... Cool watch, I used to have Traser keyrings tied to stuff that helped with identifying gear during long dark walks in the hills, so bright and didn't fade, how's the watch after that many years? Photobucket is better than direct forum uploads anyway, means you can control them all from the same place.

Have seen these before and fancied a "rugged" dress style, silver or leather. Don't know much about these watches though.

MartinT,
I'll have to get the old camera out and find out how to post pictures on here.
Yomanze,
Please define "classic" is that old, old looking, or sold out. I have a friend in Germany who is a watch distributor, I'll ask her, but unfortunately, Poljot have their own distributor there, so she can't sell them, but could find out about them for you. I presume you mean chrome when you say "silver"
Anthony.

Yeah chrome or stainless steel not a fan of gold watches on me. Classic being something from the 60s or early 70s, prefer simple watches over heavy duty ones.

No thread would be complete without the Marixist DQ perspective , but i promise this will be my 1 and only post . Watches beyond the cheap and the practical are an ostentatious show of wealth boys toys , it is no surprise they are to be found on premiership footballers wrists when they are about town . I dont wear one , if i need to know the time i look at my mobile . Thats all folks .

Anything more than a Binatone HiFi is a pointless display of manhood, when all it needs to do is play music.
Anything more than a Lada Riva is a pointless cock extension.
Traditional hand tailoring is needless willy waving when all you really need is your Dad's hand me downs...

I can picture you sitting in the pub wearing sack-cloth while pontificating about the evils of the Bourgeoisie We have nothing to lose but our chains!

Good watches are an investment, and a protection against inflation, especially if bought pre-owned.
