Good to see Vettel splitting the Mercedes pair in Qualy. Now the big question is: how easy is it to overtake with the new cars?

Lewis on Pole but very close between him and Vettel at the end. Mercedes definitely don't appear to have the dominance of the past couple of years, but Ferrari also don't appear to be ahead of them either.

Good to see Vettel splitting the Mercedes pair in Qualy. Now the big question is: how easy is it to overtake with the new cars? Indeed, and the start will be very interesting too with the Ferrari looking so close in terms of pace now. Also we know Vettel will fancy his chances off the line. If he gets away first we'll have a race and a half as Hamilton will only chase and push push push

Yes, the Ferraris are always good at the start and I'm rather hoping Vettel gets off well, as that will truly set up a battle.

The gap between Hamilton and Bottas is interesting, I wonder if it will close up at all? Remember, they would have had the engine turned down today. Tomorrow, they'll pull out all the stops and then we'll see some serious times. I really want Honda to fix their engine, I know they have the necessary knowledge within them. It's very frustrating. Yes, should be interesting as the fuel load lightens and if the Pirelli's really do hold up then hell for leather in the last half hour or so. Perhaps Ferrari threw everything at it to get that close and MB did not.. Could be a drive away if Lewis gets his starts sorted. We'll see. When you think of all the dicking around there's been over the recent years. Started with that plonker Max M and was downhill ever since. Grooved tyres - idiot! I'll never forgive him for that. Why do they suddenly think its safe to go 5secs a keep faster now all of a sudden? Lets hope Ross et al can get the cars to be able to follow and pass and get rid of the dreaded DRS assisted pass

I think even if the pitstop had been ideal, Vettel had the measure of them today.

I think even if the pitstop had been ideal, Vettel had the measure of them today. Agreed, Ferrari at this stage have a great car, equal if not slightly better than Mercedes for race pace. BUT, there really isnt much in it so we now have a genuine title battle on this season between Hamilton and Vettel I'd say. This is what the fans want, not a stroll in the park for any one team so bring it on. I cant wait for race two to further gauge difference between Ferrari and Mercedes pace. On the down side the harder to overtake, follow etc is a pain as a result of the changes, strategy and race position will be vital going forward as we've seen today.

Ferrari definitely had the edge today. Lewis was impressive to keep Vettel behind for so long. Like everyone's saying, we have a race on our hands this season it appears

Different tracks are going to favour one or other car. The next one is China with its two very long straights. That should favour the Mercedes in principle. We shall see.

Thank god something other than a Merc won. Tyres are less deggy it seems - esp on the Ferrari, that is good! Lets hope it's a topsy turvey year, win wise.
Forgot to say - no Prico Rossberg - refreshing! Nobody seemed to mention him - says it all. The was some tweet txt put up by him but that doesn't count

Bit embarrassing for Honda to hear via the media that Mclaren are talking to Mercedes, considering an engine change. Nice comment from Alonso - We won't always be running in 14th place, or at least I won't...
Pink has no business being in the same sentence as Formula 1 car.
Shark fins should stay on sharks and F1 Stock cars.
Did love all the positive driver comments on how much they could now continue pushing the cars due to low tyre degradation, which was a target objective to get better racing.

The was some tweet txt put up by him but that doesn't count LOL - it was quite refreshing him not being around. I always found him rude and arrogant and not overally talented from a racing perspective (although he was known to be fast). Once Bottas gets up to speed with the Mercedes, he could be a challenge for Lewis, but I still think Lewis will come out on top I've liked Vettel a lot since he appeared on Top Gear a few years ago and was hilarious... so it will be good to see him do well (although secretly I still want Lewis to win the WDC).

To throw presents at the Chinese fans who had politely waited to see more than just rain during practice.

Pole for Hamilton in a very tight qualy. Methinks this has set the pattern for the rest of the season. Who will have the best development between Mercedes and Ferrari?
